The XLIFF filter has "The following options apply to the 3.x filter only" but the options seem to also aply to 4.x. What is the purpose of this string?
Not exactly, because it is not a question of OmegaT version only, it's a question of the version of the filter. If you check "Compatibility with OmegaT 2.6", the options do not apply.
I'm not suggesting that wording, but the meaning is
The following options apply to OmegaT 3.x and above if Compatibility with OmegaT 2.6 is not checked

You may have noticed that above there is a checkbox "Compatibility with OmegaT 2.6".
In that context, "3.x" means 3.x and above.
