Typing accented characters á é í ó ú in Ubuntu 24.4 doesn't work when translating French to Spanish, the following happens to me:

-When typing the dead key, it shows the floating underlined accent as usual: ´
-Next, after typing the letter that is going the be accented, let's say "a", it doesn't do anything, the accent keeps floating there: ´
-After that, it doesn't matter what I type next, the underlined accent keeps floating to the right but the accented character doesn't show at all: faskjfhsalkfjh´
-It finally shows the accented character when typing the dead key again, even if I delete the floating accent mark but it still shows the underlined floating accent, it never really goes away: á´

This is my first time doing a report like this, I hope this is the correct place.

Thank you Jaime. It is the correct place.

I’m not working on Linux, but somebody who does will eventually comment.

I can confirm I had this in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with OmegaT 6.1.0 and 6.0.1. This was one of the reasons I went back to using OmegaT 5.7.0 on Ubuntu 24.04 with X.org (together with fractional scaling and blurry text issues with the switch to Wayland display manager from x.org, and the Google Translate plugin without API not working properly in OmegaT 6 and higher). Since then I moved on to Ubuntu non-LTS 24.10, 25.04, and now 25.10, with Wayland (still using 5.7.0). This morning, on Ubuntu 25.10, I tested 6.0.1 and 6.1.0 and this accent issue is not an issue any more. Obviously, a number of things have changed between Ubuntu 24.04 and 25.10, including the definitive switch from X to Wayland, updates to Java, and also, crucially I think, various important updates to the libinput package, which, on Ubuntu, interprets key presses for the window manager (X or Wayland). I remember that when this accent issued first occurred, a very tiny window/box/indicator would appear in the bottom left hand corner of the screen on the dead key accent press, and would then disappear after other presses. It made inputing accents impossible. I think the problem possibly occurred because Ubuntu 24.04, and libinput , still had one foot in X.org and one foot in Wayland. Now Ubuntu is in-all with Wayland. However, note that this occurred with OmegaT 6 and up on Ubuntu 24.04, whether on X or Wayland, but did not occur in OmegaT 5.7.0, whether on X or Wayland. To fully confirm I should try Ubuntu 24.04 in a VM, but I don't have time right now ...
