I have been fiddling with my PowerBook 1400 over the past month trying to install Debian Sarge. I have come to the conclusion that the 2.4.32 kernel with the Debian Sarge installer doesn't like my Sonnet Crescendo 466MHz G3 upgrade card. When I remove the card and replace it with the original 166MHz PPC 603 processor everything works fine. The Debian installer even recognizes and initializes my Orinoco Gold wireless PC card. Woo, hoo! Put the G3 card back in... the boot process always hangs at MMU:setio. Seems to me that back in the early 2000s when I was trying to install Nubus Linux on a G3-upgraded Powermac 6100 I had to do something with ResEdit to make the MAXpowr (it was a Newertech G3 upgrade card) extension load before the MkLinux extension. I think it had to do with enabling the kernel to recognize the L1 and secondary cashes on the card. Do any of you "old timers" remember something like that? Or, is there some mach_option that would do the same thing?
