Hi, Jeff prepared a patch to explicitly close statusd on deinit. This was needed because when restarting notion (notioncore.restart()), we don't quit the old notion and start a new one, but instead we just execve() the new notion on top of the old one - which basically explains why the old statusd didn't quit in that case. So this should fix the multiple instances of statusd running when restarting notion. On a related note, eventually I'd like to see mod_statusbar evolve into a standalone application that can be loaded into the mod_dock just like any other panel. But that's something for another day :) Kind regards, Arnout On Tue, Nov 19, 2013 at 2:20 PM, Jeff Backus <jef...@gm...> wrote: > Hi Tot-to, > > Just wanted touch base. I believe that may have been true at one time, but I can confirm that the nVidia proprietary drivers support RandR and have so for the past few years. Not sure what version you are running. I'm have version 304.88 and I can adjust displays, etc. no problem. Also, you may find this article from the Linux Journal helpful: http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/switching-monitor-profiles It discusses a method for using auto-detecting whether your laptop is docked or not and switching between monitor profiles automatically. > Anyway, one need to restart notion in order to apply changes in > configuration files of notion. I can confirm the issue you are seeing with statusd_mpd-socket. With the mpd monitor enabled, I get an orphaned ion-statusd process whenever I restart or exit Notion. I do not see this when I disable the mpd monitor. The orphaned process on exit causes hiccups with KDM and multiple logins. Looks to me like a bug in ion-statusd. This isn't what you asked, but you may not need to restart at all. You can use mod_xrandr to detect resolution changes and to automatically resize the WM without needing to restart it. |

Hello, After executing "session/restart" in main menu, I can see one more instance of ion-statusd running. Since i use statusd_mpd.lua script, at some point mpd (Music Player Daemon) starts to complain about connections limit and to drop any new connections. It means that every instance operates independently just wasting system resources. I need to restart notion a in order to switch between laptop's built-in and dedicated screen with different resolution. |

Hi folks, First off, just wanted to say as a long time user and mailing list lurker that Notion is ridiculously awesome - many, many thanks for all the hard work! I've run into an issue while upgrading an older installation on one of my machines that I access only via VNC. Specifically, I'm using TigerVNC, the precompiled binary of which does not come with Xinerama enabled. Since mod_xrandr relies on mod_xinerama, which of course relies on the server having Xinerama enabled, the new version of Notion (2013030200?) no longer responds to screen size changes. My older install - circa 2011? - used an "external" mod_xrandr, from gwash, I believe, and did not rely on mod_xinerama. I can understand why the TigerVNC team did not include Xinerama in their default build, and recompiling/wresting with X + Tiger everytime there is an update doesn't seem like a productive (or pleasant) use of one's time. Is there a good way to address this issue on the Notion side? Is this even an issue that others have run into? I spent a little bit of time looking over the code for mod_xinerama and mod_xrandr. Are there any reasons why we can't merge the two into a single module? (mod_dynamicview?) Perhaps modify mod_xinerama so that in the event the server doesn't support Xinerama, it will assume only one monitor and fall back on RANDR for screen information? Thanks in advance. I think that the general idea is that the status bar is only text and non interactive. it is only a status bar. You can however use a system tray such as stalonetray to add such interactive icons. regards Martin On Tue, Oct 8, 2013 at 3:28 PM, tot-to <to...@to...> wrote: > Hi Josef, > > I guess fbpanel is what you want. > > On Mon, 07 Oct 2013 23:13:13 -0700 > Josef Bailey <jcb...@gm...> wrote: > > > Hello > > > > First of all i just want to say how awesome this window manager is > > > > I have been a long time i3-wm user and tried dwm / awesome and other > > but this one is just smooth > > > > My question is .. can i add widgets or other things to the config to > > make it look better ie a status bar with volume icons , sound volume > > (mixer) > > > > Thanks > > Josef > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > October Webinars: Code for Performance > > Free Intel webinars can help you accelerate application performance. > > Explore tips for MPI, OpenMP, advanced profiling, and more. Hello there, The Dolphin Wii Emulator crashes immediately after clicking on Config, Graphics, DSP, GCPad or Wiimote button, and probably others as well. I'm using the notion window manager of course, but if I use blackbox window manager instead, there is no problem. I'm using dual monitor as well, in case it is relevant. See following error. Anyone can reproduce it? ~$ dolphin-emu Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/50-user.conf", line 14: reading configurations from ~/.fonts.conf is deprecated. The program 'dolphin-emu' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 9056 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) Anyway, great window manager, won't use any other, except blackbox of course for launching the emulator. Robin |

Hello Jason, This should be possible. I'm a bit unclear on the details, so I might be a bit off here, but this is what should happen from the top of my head: If I recall correctly, a mod_statusbar is created for a specific screen (WScreen). When using mod_xrandr (which is recommended and should be the default when you have multiple monitors), each of your physical monitors should have a WScreen (and thus its own set of workspaces etc). The default mod_statusbar configuration only adds a statusbar to screen 0, but you can add a statusbar to other screens yourself easily (mod_statusbar.create). Now this obviously only works if you really have multiple WScreens for your multiple monitors. You can check with 'xwininfo -root -tree | grep WScreen' - that should return as many lines as you have monitors. I seem to recall this wasn't working for some users - might have something to do with the proprietary nvidia driver? - so if that's what's going on in your case I'd love to work with you to resolve that issue. Kind regards, Arnout On Wed, Jul 10, 2013 at 8:54 AM, Jason Timrod <jt...@ya...> wrote: > Hi all, > > Is it possible to configure mod_statusbar to place one statusbar on each > monitor? Hi all, I've got a customised look file (no surprise there, I'm sure!) which has the following section in it: de.substyle("*-*-*-*-activity", { shadow_colour = "red", highlight_colour = "red", background_colour = "red", foreground_colour = "#FFFFFF", }), I've tried putting this section in to various defstyle blocks ("tab", "tab-frame", "frame-tiled"), yet this doesn't seem to change the colour of the frame at all; only the tab-title colour changes. This is a problem for me because I make use of min_tabs.lua which hides the tab title when there's only one window in the frame---so I would therefore like to get the border colour of the frame changed as well. Is this currently possible? TIA! Jason |

Recently I install NOTion on debian amd64. When switching between different workspace with Mod1 + 1, Mod1 + 2, etc. (as described in documentation http://notion.sourceforge.net/notionkeys.html), it doesn't work. Checking xmodmap, output shows similar to mod1 Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x6c), Meta_L (0xcd) Is there any way to check if some setting may occupy the current key binding (e.g. alt + 2)? I appreciate any suggestion. Thanks |

Hi all, I've been having a problem with my statusbar for a long time. My problem is that any changes to the icons results in all the icons disappearing until notion is restarted. I've reproduced this with several statusbar applications, including trayer and docker. I don't do anything too weird in my configuration files. Here's my statusbar template: template="[ %date || load: %load || %linuxbatt (%linuxbatt_state) ] %systray" And I do have kludges to put docker and trayer in the statusbar, e.g.: defwinprop{ class = "trayer", statusbar = "systray", } I am running trayer like this: trayer --transparent true --widthtype request --alpha 255 To see the problem, I can do the following: * Run some programs that have status icons. I am using pidgin, and nm-applet right now * Kill trayer * Restart trayer * Note that icons are not visible in statusbar. * Restart notion * Note that icons become visible Has anyone experienced something similar? Alternatively, if someone has a setup that works, could you tell me so I could test it? Thanks, Ed |

Hi Steven, We don't have a roadmap per se, but what I can think of of the top of my head: * More default configuration (so most apps work out-of-the-box - most do, but there's always room to improve) * More streamlined release process (so we can do releases more often) * More/better documentation and website * Anything in the bugtrackers :) Kind regards, Arnout On Tue, Feb 5, 2013 at 6:00 PM, Steven Hum <sd...@gm...> wrote: > Hi Philipp, > > Doh! If this is important for you please file a feature request, maybe someone will implement it. You are aware though that there are easy key bindings for tagging and attaching a tagged client, right? You could also add a binding for mod_menu.menu(_, _sub, 'ctxmenu') to the WFrame section of cfg_notioncore.lua. You could bind this to a key or use the mclick function to bind it to a mouse button. However the menu then appears in the bottom left corner of the frame by default, so this is not exactly what you want. But maybe one of these solutions is acceptable for you? If not feel free to file the feature request. :) Cheers, Philipp |

Hello Albert, Indeed the 'systray' options are probably what you're looking for. However, the internal notion statusbar does not support hosting systray applications. For this you'd use a third-party tray app (such as stalonetray or trayion) or a panel app that supports systray icons (such as fbpanel or gnome-panel). It'd be lovely if someone could volunteer writing some better documentation about all this! Kind regards, Arnout On Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 4:39 PM, Albert Shih <Alb...@ob...> wrote: > Hi all, > > I'm using notion (in fact ion3) since...ion2. > > Actually I'm using notion on FreeBSD (so it's not the last version because > the ports don't exist and it's work perfectly). > > I try to use nagstamon (http://nagstamon.ifw-dresden.de/) a software who > check nagios for you (writing in python). > > I like to have nagstamon in the buttom of notion (near the date) and popup > when I put the mouse over it. > > I don't known how to configure notion for that, actually nagstamon run > juste like any X11 (meaning full screen for me) or with systray module > he...just disapear.... > > Regards. > > JAS > -- > Albert SHIH > DIO bâtiment 15 > Observatoire de Paris > 5 Place Jules Janssen > 92195 Meudon Cedex > Téléphone : 01 45 07 76 26/06 86 69 95 71 > xmpp: ja...@ob... > Heure local/Local time: > lun 28 jan 2013 16:36:03 CET > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Master Visual Studio, SharePoint, SQL, ASP.NET, C# 2012, HTML5, CSS, > MVC, Windows 8 Apps, JavaScript and much more.
