Hello, There are some cool new developments in Notion! We are planning to release 'Notion 4' now, which has a couple of bigger, non-backwards-compatible changes. We have finally managed to drop all of the code that was released under the Ion license, which was a modified LGPL license. This mean we will be able to release Notion 4 under the regular LGPL again. It also means there might be some features that are now missing or bugs that might re-appear. I think we've covered all the major ones, but do report it when you find any further regressions. The other most noticeable change in Notion 4 is a new default set of keybindings. You can find a schematic at https://notionwm.net/notion4keys.html . It is possible to switch back to the Notion 3 keybindings. Also, mod_statusbar is now no longer enabled by default, but instead mod_dock is. You can find a further overview of changes https://notionwm.net/migration.html . A more detailed overview can be found at https://github.com/raboof/notion/releases/tag/untagged-cc2e2e2c941f2b361883 Of course I realize the choice of window manager is a highly personal one, so even if much of the Notion 3 behaviour can be achieved in Notion 4 as well, not everyone will have a desire to switch. It is entirely fine to stay on Notion 3 if you prefer. We have also been updating some infrastructure: * The code now lives on github, https://github.com/raboof/notion (and https://github.com/raboof/notion-doc for the docs) * For discussions around specific features or topics, feel free to use the GitHub 'Issues' * We have our own domain at https://notionwm.net/ * Our IRC chat is still #notion on irc.freenode.net Before we actually release Notion 4, I would warmly welcome you to check out the code from github and give it a try, taking into account the migration guide. It would be lovely to get your feedback, either here or in the form of github issues. Kind regards, Arnout |

Hi Mindaugas, Thanks for the ping! I removed the invitation requirement, though I'm keeping the restriction to only registered users for now while freenode battles a channel spam option. Once all this dies down I'll open the channel up entirely again. Kind regards, Arnout On Mon, Aug 6, 2018 at 3:03 PM, Mindaugas Celiesius <m.c...@ya...> wrote: > Hello and sorry for my bad English. I removed the file, and then zapped notion with pkill, but the file was still resurrected. It starts to look as if I have to write a few lines of Lua in cfg_notioncore.lua, and bind to some button I can press. Since I'm no notion-Lua-guru, it starts to look as if I could teach myself to ignore the offending items in the command history after all... Yours Sincerely Johannes |

Hi Johannes, This file is loaded when mod_query is loaded and saved when the session is saved or when notion is shut down. Perhaps if you edit the file and then kill the notion process this will have the desired effect? Hi Bart, For mod_statusbar, would statusbar_wsname.lua from the contrib scripts (https://github.com/raboof/notion/blob/master/contrib/statusbar/statusbar_wsname.lua) work? For an 'external' status bar, I think you could currently watch the _ION_WORKSPACE root window X property. Eventually it would be nice to support the EWMH _NET_CURRENT_DESKTOP and _NET_DESKTOP_NAMES properties (https://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spec/wm-spec-1.3.html). Unfortunately the EWMH "Desktop" concept might not quite map directly to our "Workspace": they talk about "multiple so-called 'virtual desktops', of which only one can be shown on the screen at a time", where in a multi-screen setup we have a different Workspace on each Screen. I'm not sure they have the concept of 'multiple screens' like we do. I'd like to put the name of the current workspace in the statusbar. If someone has this set up, I'd appreciate it if you could share your config. Of course, if you have ideas about how to achieve this, they would be most welcome as well. Thanks. :-) |

Hi all, Is there a way of editing or resetting the command history of notion? I have some annoying items in my history, which keep showing up, cluttering the view. They can be seen in ~/.notion/default-session--0/saved_queryhist.lua, but this appears to only be a snapshot of what was in the history stack at the time I log out. Deleting or editing it has no effect. This is only a minor niggle, but in a heat wave, it can be quite annoying. Hälsningar Johannes p.s. In notion command history, spaces seem to count, at least trailing ones. |

Hi! I've recently upgraded gnucash to 3.1, now with proper GTK3 support. Since then, I notice that some Windows pop up on top of the gnucash main window instead of as a separate window, with no way that I can see to access the lower window, which is highly annoying e.g. for reconciliation. Any ideas what could cause this or what to do about this? Thanks, Thomas |

Hello all, I've just released version 3-2017050501 of Notion. This is mostly a maintenance release, but some notable changes include: * Add focuslist menu for workspaces (thanks to @hedning) * Add sizepolicy support for menus (thanks to @hedning) * Fix statusd free memory (thanks to @jsbackus) * Improve error messages for invalid key combinations (thanks to @xmw and @knixeur) * configuration options for warp cursor placement (thanks to Campbell Barton) * include net_client_list in the default configuration * add Subtle(wm)-like window management to contrib scripts (@gwash) * add rofi menu support (thanks to @olejorgenb and @hedning) * various cleanups (thanks to Campbell Barton, Wojtek Aniszewski, @jsbackus, Joe Mason, @olejorgenb) Get it at: https://github.com/raboof/notion/releases Kind regards, Arnout |

I'm missing everything: wojciech@orion:~$ ls -l /usr/share/notion/debian-menu* ls: cannot access '/usr/share/notion/debian-menu*': No such file or directory wojciech@orion:~$ ls -l /var/lib/notion ls: cannot access '/var/lib/notion': No such file or directory btw in my system, it's /usr/local/share/notion. But debian-menus are still not there. (It's: ion-completeman ion-runinxterm notion-lock welcome.cs.txt welcome.fi.txt welcome.txt). The libs in my system are in /usr/local/lib/notion. Here's a tree of that dir, no remote signs of debian packages. . ├── bin │ ├── ion-completefile │ ├── ion-statusd │ └── notionflux ├── lc │ ├── de.lc │ ├── ioncore_bindings.lc │ ├── ioncore_efbb.lc │ ├── ioncore_ext.lc │ ├── ioncore_luaext.lc │ ├── ioncore_menudb.lc │ ├── ioncore_misc.lc │ ├── ioncore_quasiact.lc │ ├── ioncore_tabnum.lc │ ├── ioncore_wd.lc │ ├── ioncore_winprops.lc │ ├── mod_dock.lc │ ├── mod_menu.lc │ ├── mod_notionflux.lc │ ├── mod_query_chdir.lc │ ├── mod_query.lc │ ├── mod_sm.lc │ ├── mod_sp.lc │ ├── mod_statusbar.lc │ ├── mod_tiling.lc │ ├── mod_xinerama.lc │ ├── mod_xkbevents.lc │ ├── mod_xrandr.lc │ ├── statusd_date.lc │ ├── statusd_load.lc │ └── statusd_mail.lc └── mod ├── de.so ├── mod_dock.so ├── mod_menu.so ├── mod_notionflux.so ├── mod_query.so ├── mod_sm.so ├── mod_sp.so ├── mod_statusbar.so ├── mod_tiling.so ├── mod_xinerama.so ├── mod_xkbevents.so └── mod_xrandr.so Now, about package mantainers. I repeat, I'm NOT using a debian package. Notion is built from git snapshot. However, my ~/.notion dates back to 2009 when I started using ion3, and there are snippets left there dating back to some versions I could've been using. w On Sun, Feb 05, 2017 at 12:38:09AM -0800, Dima Kogan wrote: > Wojciech Aniszewski <ani...@da...> writes: > > > Yes I do have that package. Quite sure that snippet from cfg_notioncore.lua is added by the debian maintainer. No sign of it in the official repo, and grepping though some stuff I find it in an old folder I have lying around containing an old ion3.deb unpacked. > Yes I do have that package. Yes I do have that package. You see, depreceated or not, if other WMs can acces this info (or, for that matter, programs such as 'pdmenu') then why not Notion. It's more about the failed Notion functionality than menu itself. Which brings me back to the issue: in cfg_notioncore.lua I see something like: 404 -- Auto-generated Debian menu definitions 405 if os and os.execute("test -x /usr/bin/update-menus") == 0 then 406 if notioncore.is_i18n() then 407 dopath("debian-menu-i18n") 408 else 409 dopath("debian-menu") 410 end 411 end and I don't think the 'debian-menu' module even exists. I'm not sure if it was built, as I'm using a snapshot, perhaps I should enable it somewhere at build time. regards W On Fri, Feb 03, 2017 at 05:28:33PM -0800, Dima Kogan wrote: > Wojciech Aniszewski <ani...@da...> writes: > > > I'm using Notion in Debian. Hi. The menu system is now deprecated in Debian (in favor of freedesktop files in /usr/share/applications), and perhaps that's what you're seeing. Do you have the 'menu' package installed? |
