I have switched from the abandoned GWD Text Editor (http://www.gwdsoft.com/) to Notepad++ and I still think, it was a good choice. There is a nice feature of GWD I'm still missing in Notepad++: There is a "Favorite Files" menu item in the "File" menu which presents a (customizable) list of often used files, similar to the "Favorites" functionality in Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer. This would be a very handy enhancement of Notepad++ (and probably not too difficult to implement).

A plug in to add a favorite list of files as a pull down menu would be very nice. One of my most useful things missed switching from notetab as well. The explorer plug in is great, but a few too many clicks to be really convenient, unless you have it open all the time.

You may wish to post a request in IdeaTorrent, but aren't the following features more than replacing it:
1/ Recent file men section - you need to enable it from Settings -> Preferences -> MISC
2/ Using sessions to save sets of files - complete with current position , highlighter and bookmarks - for further reload

I don't want to replace anything. I switched to np++and never looked back. I'd like to see an improvement to the explorer plug in (that I use every day), or something similar. I used NoteTab for years, and it was quite good, but after asking about some features it was missing, np++ was an obvious better choice for me.
I do know about recent files, and do know how to set custom sessions of files, and even do know how to add whatever I want manually to the xml file (I'm being polite here), but I'm asking for the simplicity of a menu you can toss documents you use on a regular basis into a menu, and edit as you need to. Something that is a simple add or remove menu, with rename or whatever for the links.Pretty much the same as the explorer menu plug in, but as a pull down menu for the file list.
I could probably make it myself if I took a look at it (in some half-assed fashion), but everyone has other priorities, and this sounds like something that should be an expansion to the explorer plug in anyways (which has been requested many times, …and this is the feature request topic after all).
Anyways, just asking, and crossing my fingers that it isn't just me still interested in something to simplify things.

Well, plugins are independent projects, in theory. So the request was supposed to go to the concerned project initially.
But since the project may not be actively developed, the nice theory leaks, and the request may have no better place than here to go, or on our IdeaTorrent better. If Explorer picks up, then the request will be marked as invalid; otherwise, there is a chance that N++ or another plugin takes care of it.
The same quandary exists for TextFX, and is tougher to handle because TextFX's concerns are even closer to N++'s.

Explorer plugin has the "Favorites" panel.
You can also customize the "Run" menu to open files - edit shortcuts.xml.
