I started to use mytourbook for managing my gpx files: mainly for viewing the trips and for the workout statistics. I really like it for my personal maintenance, but I like to extend it to bike maintenance as well.

On a regular base I request myself when I change bike parts whether it's an improvement or not (for my personal performance but also mechanical) and I believe the gpx can help me with it. So in general here is what I am thinking of:

  1. Add the possibility to add bikes to a users, in general I got 2 bikes (MTB and a road bike) and want to split the current statics views based on bike1,bike2 or both.
  2. Add the possibility to maintain/add (bike) parts to a bike (just a txt label)
  3. Add the possibility to maintain/add materials to a bike part. These are parts you can buy at a store (with a price and a part/purchase number, and a live time in Km's or Hrs).
  4. Add the possibility to add a bike configuration (a list of bike part used for the current bike) and the date they are added
  5. Now you can compare. what I do for example is changing chain after 7000Km, maybe it's ok but normally it will fail soon, so I replace it in advance. I do this for sprockets/chain/blades/bearings and more. Would be nice if I got use mytourbook for this as well, it knows the Km's I made and it knows the part lifetime in Km (or time). So now it can give me an overview of the bike configuration, it's lifetime and the expected lifetime and I know when bike maintenance needs to be done.

And this opens the possibility for some more statistics as well : performance by bike configuration (do I need to change the type of tire, do they perform better, or just what's it's quality) or the amount of Km's you can ride with an bike configuration.

just a thought...

Great idea. The "ridewithgps.com" site has a maintenance log feature like this, and the program "sporttracks" which I think a number of people started with before finding MyTourBook, also has a similar feature.

This would be an useful addition to the program.

In my view, there could be a "gear" option which would behave like a "user". When uploading a tour, a person/user and a gear item (or many) could be attributed to the tour.
Useful statistics could come out of this.

I split my statistics by using a separate tour type for each bike http://mytourbook.sourceforge.net/mytourbook/index.php/documentation/tools/tour-type

Thank you, but I alredy use a tour type for the various sports that i practice.I would like to insert in the system equipment and associate one or more of it to every tour, and have some statistics whit them.Veri similar to tour type tunction, the only difference is to assoicate more than one tour type to every track.Garmin Connect (site), or Strava (site) already have this feature, i'd really like to have it in this software, that i love.
    Thank You
