Hi everyone, Following on from our recent update The mxBB Project Team is proud to announce the much-awaited release of mxBB Portal version 2.8.0, the "Gold" edition! This is the culmination of many months of development and bugtracking, and is the successor to out Release Candidate Version which was made available at the end of January. At the moment both the updated 'Core' code and a selection of modules are available, it is intended that over the next few days / weeks there will be many more updated modules made available. mxBB 2.8.x is a completely new development line that adds many new features and fixes. This is a major update; it's essentially a rewrite of the legacy 2.7.x code, replacing old code with a new OO (object-oriented) design. This is the first 'full' public release of the new 2.8.x line after various rounds of Beta testing and a previous RC edition. It also includes several new features including the ability to have different pages with different themes, and the ability to choose a theme for your Admin Panel. The number of differences between this and the Beta version are minimal, so please check the release notes for RC1 for further information :- http://www.mx-system.com/index.php?page=2&t=9592&phpbb_script=viewtopic All 2.8 files can be downloaded from :- http://www.mx-system.com/index.php?page=4&action=category&cat_id=36 As always, if anyone wishes to help contribute to the project then please do not hesitate to get in touch with myself, mhewitson, or Jon. We hope you enjoy this new release! The mxBB Project Team |

Original announcement posted here: http://www.mx-system.com/index.php?page=2&p=53738&phpbb_script=viewtopic#53738 -------------------------------------------- Hello, This message is aimed towards foreign language-speaking translators who wish to translate mxBB 2.8.0's language files. As you all know, mxBB 2.8.0 will be released by the end of this month (as per the announcement here: http://www.mx-system.com/index.php?page=2&t=9487&phpbb_script=viewtopic). We recently saw interest by translators in translating 2.8.0. In order to expedite this process, we will allow any interested translator access to the English 2.8.0 language files package, once we, the mxBB Project Team, have felt that the English files are suitable for this sort of pre-release. Hopefully this will give translators a head start, if they wish to have one. If you're interested, feel free to either PM MHobbit, or respond to this topic (or both). This offer is only available to those who wish to translate 2.8.0 into a language other than English. On the other hand, if you wish to translate the aforementioned English language files into en_GB (we currently use en_US), you may also contact us by PMing MHobbit. (There wouldn't be much to change, too.) Thanks for your continued support! The mxBB Project Team |

Hello all, It's been a while since our last update. We, the mxBB Project Team, have indeed made a lot of progress, but nothing public has been released yet. So, we'd like to update everyone on our current status with the mxBB Portal product. 2.7.x As always, we will release new versions that will include bug and security fixes. It will always stay up-to-date with new phpBB versions. If you have any bug or security reports, please report them to MHobbit privately. mxBB 2.7.7-pl1 is planned for release in the coming months, and will work with those who run PHP5 on their servers; it will include two bug fixes or so. However, we are currently devoting all of our attention towards 2.8.0. 2.8.x We are very, very close to releasing 2.8.0. The only things left to complete are two final rounds of bug tracking and documentation. One of 2.8.0's strengths include theming. With mxBB 2.7.x, installing non-subSilver-based styles was a pain. With 2.8.0, it no longer is. mxBB 2.8.0 takes mxBB styling to a whole new level. As a teaser, here are two examples of phpBB styles that were easily converted for mxBB: http://www.mx-system.com/images/280_styles_teaser_1.png http://www.mx-system.com/images/280_styles_teaser_2.png Since we are close to releasing 2.8.0, we have set a general, estimated, projected release date: sometime within the last week of next January (January 2007). Beyond that, it's going to be a surprise. ;-) We _will_ meet this self-imposed deadline. All intended features have been implemented, and so 2.8.0 is feature-locked. 2.8.x Modules In addition to mxBB 2.8.0, the core package itself, we have many official modules, old and new, that will be released around the same time as 2.8.0 is released. As a teaser, some of the new features the new modules includes mass PM functionality and two modules which will help developers get started with module development. All of the official modules that are available for 2.7.7 have been massively updated, all with new code and features. The versions that we use on this site are just a small preview of what's new. If anyone wishes to help contribute (which would help us release 2.8.0 quicker), please do not hesitate to PM MHobbit about it. Thank you for staying with us through this busy months, and may everyone enjoy the holidays. :-) The mxBB Project Team ------------------------------------------- The original thread is located here: http://www.mx-system.com/index.php?page=2&t=9487&phpbb_script=viewtopic . |

In light of the new hacking incidents, we've launched this Security forum: http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=52 . As always we prefer that possible vulnerabilities be notified to us in private. We usually ask that you provide all possible info along with server logs in order for us to investigate into problems. Recently there have been more than enough incidents related to this. We work hard working towards mxBB and we always try to provide a patch release as soon as it is possible. However, we have a small, busy team, so sometimes it is not possible to have a patch provided within the same week of a reported incident. Thus, this Security forum is born. Whenever we have a completed security report along with a patch, but do not have time to provide a proper patch release immediately, we will post here. Only proper mxBB Project Team members can post in here. This forum is for interim patches, and by no means should it be a substitute for upgrading properly; whenever a new release comes after a specific dated patch provided in this forum, you should upgrade to that release, which is more than likely a cumulative patch update. We will also update each bug as it is obsoleted by a release (we will make the specific indication of which release version as well), so be sure to keep up-to-date with that. If you have any comments or concerns, you are free to contact me, MHobbit, via PM on our forums. Thanks and good luck. mxBB-Portal v 2.7.6-pl2 has been released! The mxBB Development Team would like to present mxBB-Portal version 2.7.6-pl2, dubbed the "New Year's Eve" edition. This is a security and bugfix release; the security releases are in accordance with phpBB 2.0.19's release, while the bug fix is limited to updating our mx_message_die() function. This is indeed a critical update; you are advised to upgrade ASAP. We can help you upgrade, but we cannot/won't help those who refuse to upgrade. Please see the release notes here for more information: http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1224 . We'd also like to wish everyone a Happy New Year's. :-) Cheers! I made this announcement at the mx-system.com site this past Friday, but didn't manage to post this announcement on our mailing list here. So, here it is: Hello all! We are currently looking to expand our teams. :) Our current team structure is documented <a href="http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7905">here</a>, and the usergroup information is located <a href="http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7870">here</a>. Right now, we're looking for anyone who can contribute regularly (often enough, at least ;-)) and has at least some experience with *both* mxBB and phpBB. Some other requirements include common sense (;-)), ability to help others, etc. Some specific jobs that we are offering include bugtracking, support, development (I'll discuss this with you in private if you are chosen for this position), documentation, and really anything else. If you believe you can contribute to mxBB, feel free to <a href="http://www.mx-system.com/forum/privmsg.php?mode=post&u=2586">PM me</a> with a title similar to "[Application] Team or Job". The deadline for applications will be December 31, 2005. If you miss this deadline, don't worry, if you keep on contributing outside of our team(s) and we notice you, you may get invited later anyway. We will try to select potential users by January 10, 2006. If you do not receive a PM past that point, that may mean you were not accepted. :-( ... however, don't let that discourage you; keep on contributing, and we'll notice. Thanks! |

Hello all! Today, the <a href="http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7870">mxBB Teams</a> would like to announce that we have opened/released a public beta of our next-generation mxBB line, versioned 2.8.0B1. :-) This is a public beta release as part of the development cycle. Please see the new <a href="http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=47">2.8.0 Quality Assurance</a> forum for more details! ... please read all of the announcements and stickies in that forum before participating in our public beta release program (titled "2.8.0 Quality Assurance" ). ;-) Currently, we are only releasing the core as the public beta. Stay tuned for beta releases of modules! We'll get those out ASAP. There is a chance that this won't be the first beta released... also keep your eyes out for beta 2 (2.8.0B2)!:-) ... you'll of course receive more information on that when the time comes. Thanks in advance for your contribution(s), and good luck!... just a note, that the quicker and more you contribute , the higher the possibility that we can release a fully stable 2.8.0 release by the end of the year, or very early next year. ;-) -MHobbit, on behalf of the mxBB Teams |

Hi everyone,
The mxBB Development Team is proud to announce the immediate release of
mxBB-Portal version 2.7.6, the "in between milestones" edition. :-)
This is a Critical Update that in addition to several bug fixes includes
a couple of security related fixes and some improvements based on back
ported code from our incoming next major release.
All Users of mxBB-Portal are strongly encouraged to upgrade to this release
as soon as possible.
mxBB-Portal 2.7.6 is already available from our main website:
http://www.mx-system.com/index.php?page=112&action=file&file_id=2
mxBB-Portal 2.7.6 Release Notes can be found here:
http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1224
It contains a step by step guide to help upgrade from 2.7.5-pl4 to 2.7.6
in just 5 minutes! ;-)
A detailed guide including code changes from 2.7.5-pl4 to 2.7.6 (written in
phpBB MOD format) has been posted here:
http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6576
Summary of changes introduced with 2.7.6:
Security Fixes:
* SQL Injection affecting mx_poll.php has been fixed. In addition
this script has been fully re-written based on code from latest
phpBB version.
* Included a .htaccess file in the cache folder to prevent others
from reading cached data.
* Added mxBB version number in ACP page footer (thanks to MHobbit for
pointing this out) as well as to add a condition to ensure version
numbers are only visible to logged in admins, which has been
introduced in phpBB 2.0.14.
* The scripts includes/page_header.php, includes/page_tail.php,
admin/page_header_admin.php, admin/page_footer_admin.php and
admin/pagestart.php have been fully revised to match the
corresponding scripts in phpBB. This not only introduces security
fixes but also may fix strange errors that happen from time to time
on some systems such as weird blank pages, etc.
Bug Fixes:
* Fixed new mx_request_vars class, MX_TYPE_NO_SQL has been replaced
with MX_TYPE_SQL_QUOTED and condition of execution fixed.
* Fixed bug building URLs to user profiles in mx_online.php.
* Renamed $starttime as $mx_starttime to avoid problems with other
scripts overriding its value.
* First attempt to fix PHP sessions management. A new function
mx_session_start() has been introduced. Hopefully this will help
minimize misterious problem that happends from time to time causing
weird blank pages and the like.
* Fixed some issues with our Cache generation functions.
* Fixed function mx_get_groups() to correctly deal with systems where
no usergroups are defined.
Functionality added or changed:
* New version of the mxBB Installer. A couple of minor bugs have been
fixed and the postgres7.php script has been updated as per changes
to fix the SQL parser introduced in phpBB 2.0.14 ;-).
Additionally, our main installer script is now officially named as
the
"mxBB Installation Wizard", which is much nicer ;-)
* Added basic support for Categories Hierarchy 2.1.0, meaning the
portal itself works. However, almost all blocks depending on forums
and topics information such as our Forum Index, LastMsgPost, Poll,
Announcements blocks are broken due to the particular DB structure
used by CH210 to organize forum data.
Anyway, it is good to see mxBB Portal itself works under CH210,
which is much more than what we had ;-)
* Optimized versions of mx_smilies_pass, mx_generate_smilies and
mx_decode has been introduced. This back ported code from 2.8
* Removed all duplicated phpBB template related files from our
distribution. This helps keep things organized and also avoids
duplicated efforts to apply MODs twice, and also simplifies the
task to create themes for mxBB.
* Added [delete] function to the ACP Objects Integrity Check.
* Changed ACP phpInfo utility, it now uses same technique than the
phpInfo panel already present in the mxBB Installation Wizard.
* Back ported new functions for compatibility with incoming modules.
Enjoy! ;-)

Hi everyone, mxBB-Portal version 2.7.5-pl4 (patch level 4) has been released! Only the mxBB Installer has been updated. This is to avoid installation problems found on some webservers. Actually, it seems some hosting providers (such as Lycos and maybe others) have disabled the PHP function realpath() which is need by our installer to guess the phpBB installation settings. This new release does not affect current installations. It is just to prevent similar installation problems from happening in the future. ;-) Further information on the installer issue can be found here: http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6492 Regards, The mxBB Project Team |

Hi everyone,
The mxBB Development Team would like to announce the immediate release of
mxBB-Portal version 2.7.5-pl3 (Patch Level 3).
This is a Critical Update that in addition to several bug fixes contains
back ported code from our incomming 2.8 core to make it easy to deal with
security issues related to GET and POST variables. This has been used to
fix a Critical Security Issue affecting our main index.php script.
A BIG THANK YOU goes to resnikov for reporting said security hole to us
privately.
This package has been tested under PostgreSQL 8.0.1. While doing so, a
couple of malformed SQL statements have been detected (interestingly
enough, MySQL never complained about them). This has been fixed as well.
All Users of mxBB-Portal are strongly encouraged to upgrade to this release
as soon as possible.
mxBB-Portal 2.7.5-pl3 is already available from our main website:
http://www.mx-system.com/index.php?page=112&action=file&file_id=2

in just 5 minutes! ;-)
A detailed guide of all code changes from 2.7.5 to 2.7.5-pl3 (written in
phpBB MOD format) has been posted here:
http://www.mx-system.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6473

enabling PostgreSQL users to use the cache system.
* Portal page_header.php has been patched as well to fix a minor
bug preventing Extra Meta Tags Settings from being sent to the
browser.
* File name in header comments has been fixed in lang_main.php
Functionality added or changed:
* New version of the mxBB Installer. It is now able to deal with
several phpBB boards installed on the target system, even if they
use *different DB engines*.
* Module Administration has been patched to add compatibility with
incomming 2.8 Core. This has been introduced by Jon (aka Haplo)
when releasing the Knowledge Base Module 2.0.1.
* Meta Tags Administration has been heavily changed. This has been

the code changes sometime ago. ;-)
