[Multignometerm-usability] font used by tabs - how to change?

i'm using multi-gnome-terminal in fvwm (without gnome itself).
the question is:
how to change the fonts on it's (mgt's) tabs?
i tried using gnome-control-center from gnome2.
i tried setting fonts in .gtkrc.
it doesn't change.
is the name fo the font hardcoded?
