Thanks for your interest! Indeed, MrFilter can run on Windows. I successfully ran it on Windows XP Pro 32-bit. However, I never succeeded in building an installer for Windows. Since all of the code is interpreted Python, it's pretty easy to run it on Windows. All you have to do is install the dependencies. If I resurrect my attempt at a py2exe based installer, would you help me test it? Which versions of Windows would you be able to test? -Alan On Sun, Jan 6, 2013 at 10:36 AM, Vasco Rato <vas...@gm...>wrote: > Hello, > > I am very interested in using Mr. Filter for my personal work, and if i > like the software, i am going to recommend it to several colleagues of > mine. Hello, I am very interested in using Mr. Filter for my personal work, and if i like the software, i am going to recommend it to several colleagues of mine. However, I run a Windows operating system, and so do all of my colleagues. Is this software intended to eventually be compatible with Windows? If not, what do i have to do to make it work on this operating system? I have some experience with python, but not much, and even fewer experience with Unix. If anyone could help me with this matter i'd greatly appreciate it. If with your help i manage to get this to work on Windows, i intend to make a batch file or a C program to automatically do what i had to do to make it work, or even something more complex if required. Obviously, i'd send back to the community the end product of this. Thanks for your time, Vasco Rato |

Well, my versions of python and pygtk are exactly the same as yours. All
of the yum-managed packages on my system are up to date as of five minutes
ago, so... that's pretty strange. I'll try to do a little more research
into this...

I finally got a Fedora 17 VM running, but I can't reproduce this problem.
I have pygtk2-2.24.0-4.fc17 (64 bit) and python-2.7.3-6.fc17 (64 bit) and
the ButterworthBtn group works fine. Perhaps the newer pygtk package fixed
the problem?

I'm having more issues now that it's up and running. The problem is that
widget.get_name doesn't seem to return the kind of name you're expecting in
your code. This seems to cripple most of the program. Here's an example
of one of the many errors this causes.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/mrfilter/main.py", line 364, in
on_ButterworthBtn_group_toggled
'CauerBtn' : ('cauer', False, True)}[widget.get_name()]
KeyError: 'GtkRadioButton'
Your code is expecting get_name() to return something like 'ButterworthBtn'
or 'CauerBtn', but it instead is returning 'GtkRadioButton', which is
obviously the name of the widget class that the button is an instance of
instead of a string identifier like your code expects. I've been able to
find at least one other instance of somebody having this problem. I'm not
sure if it's a bug or a "feature" of the version of pygtk or python
compared to what yours is. My python is 2.7.3, and my pygtk2
is pygtk2-2.24.0.
I'm not really sure what you should be expected to do about this. It seems
to me like a goof on the part of pygtk rather than your fault, but if
that's the direction that they're heading you may have to figure out how to
stay compatible. I'll try to do a little more research and let you know if
I find anything helpful.

Yep, that's it. I developed this on numpy 1.3.0. I just tested on another machine with numpy 1.5.1 and got the exception. Perhaps I have a different version of numpy than you- one that won't fail gracefully when the isinf() is passed a str-type. On the fourth iteration, value equals 'butter', so the error occurs. A
comment directly above that line sounds very relevant:
#Here we must compare to True instead of doing 'if np.isinf(...)'

Also, regarding the missing module, I found this: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general/415746 Apparently it's an optional module that every gtk program complains about. Shouldn't be causing the problem, I think. You want to be using gdb (the Python source-level debugger) for this. gdb will debug the C interpreter instead. The easiest way is probably to go into mrfilter_util.py at line 223 and write: import pdb pdb.set_trace() I'm also concerned about the 'Failed to load module "pk-gtk-module"' line. That probably means that you are missing some unidentified dependency. Then you can execute the program like normal. I'm happy to do so once I figure out how. I've used gdb for various debugging tasks in the past, but I'm not sure how to make useable breakpoints / variable watches for python (as I said, I don't know much about python). I'm loading it into gdb using: $ gdb python (gdb) run /usr/bin/mrfilter Any tips on setting up breaks / watches for python that would help get me the info that you need? In the meantime, you might give this a try: replace your mrfilter.xml with the version at http://gist.github.com/360127 . -Alan On Wed, Apr 7, 2010 at 10:43 PM, Piotr Gluszenia Slawinski <cu...@bw...> wrote: > [ebuild R ] dev-libs/glib-2.22.4 USE="-debug -doc -fam -hardened > (-selinux) -xattr" 0 kB > [ebuild R ] x11-libs/gtk+-2.18.6 USE="cups jpeg jpeg2k xinerama (-aqua) > -debug -doc -test -tiff -vim-syntax" 0 kB > > Portage 2.1.7.17 (default/linux/x86/10.0, gcc-4.3.4, glibc-2.10.1-r1, > 2.6.33.1 i686) > ================================================================= > System uname: > Linux-2.6.33.1-i686-Intel-R-_Pentium-R-_III_CPU_family_1133MHz-with-gentoo-1.12.13 > Timestamp of tree: Tue, 06 Apr 2010 23:30:01 +0000 > distcc 3.1 i486-pc-linux-gnu [enabled] > app-shells/bash: 4.0_p37 > dev-java/java-config: 2.1.10 > dev-lang/python: 2.6.4-r1 > dev-util/cmake: 2.6.4-r3 > sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.13 > sys-apps/sandbox: 1.6-r2 > sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63-r1 > sys-devel/automake: 1.7.9-r2, 1.8.5-r4, 1.9.6-r3, 1.10.3, 1.11.1 > sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 > sys-devel/gcc: 4.3.4 > sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1 > sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6b > virtual/os-headers: 2.6.30-r1 > ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" > ACCEPT_LICENSE="* -@EULA" > CBUILD="i486-pc-linux-gnu" > CFLAGS="-O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -march=pentium3 -s -combine > -ftree-loop-linear -ftree-vectorize -funit-at-a-time -pipe" > CHOST="i486-pc-linux-gnu" > CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" > CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ > /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo > /etc/udev/rules.d" > CXXFLAGS="-O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -march=pentium3 -s -ftree-loop-linear > -ftree-vectorize -combine -funit-at-a-time -pipe" > DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" > FEATURES="assume-digests distcc distlocks fixpackages news parallel-fetch > protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-logs unmerge-orphans userfetch" > GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org" > LDFLAGS="-Wl,--as-needed -Wl,-O1" > MAKEOPTS="-j18" > PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" > PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" > PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times > --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 > --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" > PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" > PORTDIR="/usr/portage" > PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" > SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" > USE="X acl acpi alsa berkdb bindist bzip2 cli consolekit cracklib crypt cups > custom-cflags custom-optimization cxx dbus dga dhcp dmx dri encode fbcom > flac fortran gdal gdbm gif git glibc-omitfp gmplayer gnome gnutls gpm gps > gsm gtk iconv imagemagick ioctl ipv6 jpeg jpeg2k kde ldap libdsk > libsamplerate lzo mapnik md5sum mmx mng modules mp3 mudflap mysql nas > ncurses nptl nptlonly ntp opengl openmp pam pcre perl png pppd proj python > qt3 qt3support qt4 readline reflection restrict-javascript samba scanner > scripts sdl session spl sql sse ssl svg sysfs tcpd threads tslib twolame > unicode usb v4l v4l2 video vidix voice vorbis webkit win32codecs x264 x86 > xcb xext xinerama xml xorg xv xvid xvmc zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 > atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1 emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 > es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio > via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix > dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear > meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" > APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm > authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host > authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir > disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info > log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif > speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" > INPUT_DEVICES="fpit keyboard mouse" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad > cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" > RUBY_TARGETS="ruby18" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="vesa s3 savage cirrus mga > nvidia nv" > Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, > LC_ALL, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, > PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS > > > > > -- > > On Wed, 7 Apr 2010, as...@gm... wrote: > >> What version of gtk+ and glib do you have installed?
