Yes, it's possible to use JavaScript to change the message, which is what happens with the other fields. It would probably make sense to make the messages consistent and have them all say " ... is a mandatory field". I'll try and find some time to make the change over the next couple of weeks.

the thing is that another field says "name_field is a mandatory field, please supply a value"

Which version of MRBS are you using? And also which browser?
I think this has been fixed in MRBS 1.5.0 as far as I can see by looking at the code.
