> While we could just fix the minicals to go to the same view, I would rather > hear some more general suggestings about integrating the week and month view. > Best would be ideas that don't require major changes to the interface or > implementation (like cookies). quite a while ago i think there was discussion about having a table which held user preference data... something that should be generic enough that any "preference" type thing could be stored in there. this could be a good time to get the idea out again. the choice of week, month or day view off the mincals is pretty much a user-specific thing it seems, if we allow the user to select somehow which they prefer and then we store it in the db.. you can see the implications. other things might be stuff like the default area. i'm not overly keen on the idea of adding new database tables though - it makes things messy. storing the data in a cookie may work quite nicely. i'm in no way against cookies - and there's been no specific decision not to use them. for the default area thing it would be quite convinient to use a cookie - "area to display = cgi param, then cookie, then 1st in db". i haven't looked into php's cookie handling but it can't be that hard. it would probably be quite a trivial hack to add this support, and the same to mincals.... thoughts? daniel |
