Just look at phpBB auth code and copy&paste it (more or less...) in your
auth_db...
Since you already modified the code, it shouldn't be too hard.

The "right" approach could be adding another password_format in
auth_db_ext and send the patch.
Or at least give us a pair of plaintext+cyphertext passwords to test.
