A fairly positive idea, fairly easy to do, although it would have to change the database schema...something we try to do infrequently :)
Emailing the participents on creation/change would be easy enough, but emailing reminders would be harder, as it would require a scheduled job to be setup on the server...something that not everyone will be able to do. A fairly simple PHP script on a cron job would manage it though...
I can't give any timescale on this though...development is at a fairly slow pace at the moment...
