Hi making a test between an MPLS router and an IP one i've forgotten to do following instruction: mplsadm2 -L eth0:0 Seeing the output of test MPLS router labels correctly all packets it sen= ts to the IP router. Now my question is this: what the command above is usef= ul for? Why it seems that it goes well also without this setting? Making other tests i've noticed that without this setting there is no out= put on video but communication goes well however and all packets are correctl= y labeled Thanks in advance for the help __________________________________________________________________ Tiscali Adsl 2 Mega Free: l'adsl piu' veloce e' gratis! Hi everybody
i've setted an MPLS network using old and new version of soft=
ware.
I've noticed that seeing output of /proc/net/mpls/out of a router before=
starting ping it shows
.... 0/0/0 .....
and after ping it shows
.... x/y/z ......
while with new version of software it doesn't show information about pack=
ets
received and amount of bytes. Why?
An other question seeing output of /proc/net/mpl/labelspace you see
Iface LSpc Refcnt
What does Refcnt mean? What does it is useful for?
I've seen that before ping it has a value, after an other value but how
does it change?
Thanks in advance for the help

Hello, Thanks, now the MPLS-Linux example = (http://perso.enst.fr/~casellas/mpls-linux/index.html) is working. But, = what is the real advantage? where can I apply the mpls? What is the = sense to have MPLS in to PCs with the same network? I would like to apply this between two remote linux!. I Have for = example two simple tunnel linux servers, each of one in differents = cities with some routers in the middle, and I can make a vpn without = ipsec between two remote edge with differents networks. The only = disadvantage is that I can't repeat de networks more than once. MPLS improve this?, = and if do; can you help me with some examples? Thanks for your help. Where did you read this example? The exmaple your using specifies the old syntax. The new syntax is: ip route add 1.1.1.1/32 via 2.2.2.2 spec_nh 0x8847 0x2 where 0x8847 tells the special next hop system you want to use MPLS and the 0x2 tells it to used NHLFE with index 0x2 On Wed, Dec 01, 2004 at 05:29:17PM -0500, Alexandra Alvarado wrote: > Hello, > > I have installed in my linux fedora core 2 the next package: > > iproute-2.4.7-14mpls_1_935 > mplsadm2-1.935-1 > iptables-1.2.9-2.3.1mpls_1_938 > quagga-0.96.4-1.1mpls_1_935 > kernel-sourcecode-2.6.8-1.521mpls_1_938a > mplsadm2-1.938-1 > kernel-2.6.6-1.435.2.3skas3_mpls_1_935 > iptables-1.2.9-2.3.1mpls_1_935 > iptables-ipv6-1.2.9-2.3.1mpls_1_935 > glibc-kernheaders-2.4-8.44mpls > > After reboot the machine, I tried to configure the example: > > [root@mplsa 1_935]# mplsadm2 -A -O 0 > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:692:main: Out segment input: 0 > Key: 0x00000003 > Out Segment add: Success > [root@mplsa 1_935]# > > [root@mplsa 1_935]# mplsadm2 -O 0x3 -o push:gen:16:set:eth0:ipv4:128.104.18.114 > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:692:main: Out segment input: 0x3 > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:688:main: Out instr input: push:gen:16:set:eth0:ipv4:128.104.18.114 > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:292:fill_instructions: Instruction: push > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:229:fill_label: Label type: gen > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:292:fill_instructions: Instruction: set > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:181:parse_nh_info: eth0 > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:182:parse_nh_info: 128.104.18.114 > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:204:parse_nh_info: Nexthop protocol: ipv4 > MPLSADM mplsadm.c:596:fill_instructions: Length: 2 > Out Instr: Success > You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/root > [root@mplsa 1_935]# > > The problem is HERE: > [root@mplsa 1_935]# ip route add 128.104.18.114/32 via 128.104.18.114 lsp 0x3 > Error: either "to" is duplicate, or "lsp" is a garbage. > [root@mplsa 1_935]# > > Why, I installed iproute-2.4.7-14mpls_1_935, and other version with lsp patch without succes? > > Can somebody say to me what is the problem or missconfiguration? > > Thanks > > > Alexandra Alvarado > > -- James R. Argh. Sorry I forgot a label type:
mplsadm2 -A -O 0 -o push:gen:16:fwd:key:0x2
^^^
Which key have it to use? 0x2 that is the NHLFE indicated for label 1160
or which one?
Thanks in advance for the help

i'm going to test label stack on my MPLS network, i've seen example
on the mailing list but, in my case, network test is made by 3 pcs. I've
tryed to simulate label stack on my network giving to my LER instruction

Hi,
i'm trying to simulate PHP on my network and i've a question for yo=
u:
my test is valid if i erase LSR the LSP that link it to the LER and the
label space that link it? (mplsadm2 -L eth1:-1)? Have i to erase only th=
e
LSP?
Thanks
P.S.: I know that PHP with MPLS for Linux is difficult to simulate becau=
se
on it LSR makes a lookup before sending packets but my test is useful to
give an idea of this delivery way

Hi everybody. I have installed Fedora core 2, kernel 2.6.5-1.358. I want to run mpls-linux on 6 PCs. I have downloaded "kernel-sourcecode-2.6.8-1.521mpls_1_938a.src.rpm" and "mpls-linux 1.938" (everything). I made "rpm -ivh kernel-sourcecode-2.6.8-1.521mpls_1_938a.src.rpm". All README or HOWTO pages explane how to patch and upgrade the kernel from a source file, not from an RPM. The same for the other files: iptabtes, iproute2, mplsadm2. The file types in the HOWTOs are .tar.bz2 or gz or whatever but here I only get RPMs. My question: What are the steps to install the packages listet on Project: MPLS for Linux: File List (mpls-linux 1.938)? Please help even my questions maybe sound trivial. Thanks a lot in advance. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Discover all thats new in My Yahoo! |

The parameters to the nffwd instruction indicated how to choose an NHLFE based on the nfmark. In the example above: 0xf indicates that on the first 4 bits of the nfmark should be used (nfmark values 0 - 15) 0x2:0x2 if nfmark == 0x2 then use NHLFE 0x2 0x3:0x3 if nfmark == 0x3 then use NHLFE 0x3 > This is not clear > > -- Messaggio Originale -- > >From: "James R. Start looing in linux/net/ipv4/route.c look in the function called rt_set_nexthop(). See how it calls spec_nh->func() in the case of MPLS spec_nh->func() is mpls_set_nexthop() which can be found in linux/net/mpls/mpls_output.c. Notice how mpls_set_nexthop sets dst->child? Now go look at linux/net/ipv4/ip_output.c Look for the function ip_finish_output2(). Notice what happens is dst->child is set? In the case of MPLS dst_output() calls mpls_output() which can be found in linux/net/mpls/mpls_output.c > I'd like to send packets from different source to the same destination trough > my MPLS network, if i've understtod your explanation you set an LSP with > 0X2 NHLFE and an other opne with 0X3, These LSP originate from the source > of traffic to the LER, after you forward these packets trought LSP 0x4. > In my intention source and destination of packets are IP hosts, label stack > in my idea is made by one from the I-LER to the E-LER and one that explain > which hosts has generated traffic forwarded. Lets look at the case where you want traffic from different hosts using
different LSPs:
You use iptables to differentiate the traffic from the two different hosts.
iptable -A OUTPUT -s 2.2.2.2/32 -j MARK --set-mark=2
iptable -A OUTPUT -s 3.3.3.3/32 -j MARK --set-mark=3
You then need to make sure you have a route installed for the
destination which points to a NHLFE:
ip route add 4.4.4.4/32 via 192.168.2.1 spec_nh 0x8847 0x4
Where 0x4 is the key for a NHLFE which was created like this:
mplsadm2 -A -O 0
(key 0x2)
mplsadm2 -A -O 0
(key 0x3)
mplsadm2 -A -O 0
(key 0x4)
mplsadm2 -O 0x2 -o push:gen:200:set:eth0:ipv4:192.168.2.1
mplsadm2 -O 0x3 -o push:gen:300:set:eth0:ipv4:192.168.2.1
mplsadm2 -O 0x4 -o nffwd:0xf:0x2:0x2:0x3:0x3
NOTE: the format of the nffwd command is '<mask>:<mark:nhlfe>:<mark:nhlfe>...'
Explaination:
Traffic arrives at the LER with source 2.2.2.2 and destination 4.4.4.4.
Iptables looks at the source and 'marks' the packet with 0x2.
(the mark is internal to the kernel, it is called a nfmark). The packet
continues through the IP stack. At the point of exiting the IP stack
it is redirected to MPLS via the special nexthop 0x4. In the MPLS stack
the NHLFE 0x4 looks to the nfmark on the packet and uses it to forward
it to another NHLFE, if the nfmark is 0x2 the packet is further handled
by NHLFE 0x2. NHLFE 0x2 pushes and label and send that packet.
If you would like to add another level of stacking you could do it two
different ways. Either have NHFLE 0x2 and 0x3 do multiple pushes or you
could have the fwd to another NHLFE which does a push and the final set.
The details of this are left as an excersise for the reader.

Hi i'd like to set a label stack between PCLENTO1 and TOSHIBA (see the atta= chment) After my test should be this: i receive on WINDOWS traffic from 2 host (t= hat represent 2 network) that is destinated to network linked with TOSHIBA and i would that, through my network packets are lab= elled basing on host it come from (packets from host A with a label, packets from be with an other one). How can i do this? I've seen label stack example on mailing list and my answer is: instruct= ion for r3 in the example is for PCLENTO1, those for R4 is for TOSHIBA and noone for R2 in the example, aren't they? It's probably due to TCP MSS issues, try setting your MTU lower (like 1490) on the host initiating and terminating the FTP session and see if that helps On Tue, Nov 16, 2004 at 03:13:59PM +0100, ed...@ti... wrote: > Hi, > i'm trying to transer files between an IP host and an MPLS one.
