I'm a student of university of Catalonia and I'm doing my project. This project consist of mounting a MPLS network with 5 pc's and do testing. The network consist of two users and three MPLS routers (pc's where I install the software). I want to know as the software is in use in order that the three pc's actuate like MPLS routers. I need to send traffic from a user to other one passing for the three MPLS routers so that these mark the packages with MPLS etiquettes. Then when I capture traffic with the ethereal to be able to see the MPLS etiquettes. Please, I would like to know as I must install the software and as it works= . Thanks, I do not have long time. Yes. I suggest learning how to do it with IPv4 traffic first, then adapting to MPLS. Show me the commands you use to achieve your goal with IPv4 and I will modify them to work with MPLS. But for now just add the --oldpackage tag to the end of you command and it will install. rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.9-1.6_FC2mpls_1_946a.i686.rpm --oldpackage BTW this is not a 'mpls-linux'-ism this is a general RPM installation issue and could have been solved by looking at the 'rpm' man page. > What are my faults ? where can I have a detail instruction to install > mpls-linux in rpm ? >=20 > thanks. >=20 >=20 >=20 >=20 >=20 > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by Demarc: > A global provider of Threat Management Solutions. > Download our HomeAdmin security software for free today! > http://www.demarc.com/info/Sentarus/hamr30 > _______________________________________________ > mpls-linux-general mailing list > mpl...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/mpls-linux-general --=20 James R. hi all ! I'm working around with a group that try to devolope a mpls infrastructure for teaching and researching (http://www.connekgroup.net). But I get trouble in the first time I working with MPLS-LINUX, installing mpls-linux in Fedora Core 3 (2.6.9-1.667). You can follow my installing steps to find something wrong. 1. I'm installing in Fedora Core 3 (2.6.9-1.667). 2. I downloaded: 1. kernel-2.6.9-1.6_FC2mpls_1_946a.i686.rpm 2. mpls-linux-1.946a.tar.bz2 3. iptables-1.2.11-3.1.FC3mpls1_946.i386.rpm 4. iproute-2.6.9-3mpls1_946.i386.rpm 5. ppp-2.4.2-6.4.FC3mpls1_946.i386.rpm 6. quagga-0.97.3-1.FC3mpls1_946b.i386.rpm 3. I setup the rpm files in following steps: 1. #rpm -Uvh iptables-1.2.11-3.1.FC3mpls1_946.i386.rpm --> OK 2.# rpm -Uvh iproute-2.6.9-3mpls1_946.i386.rpm -->OK 3. # rpm -Uvh ppp-2.4.2-6.4.FC3mpls1_946.i386.rpm -->OK 4. #rpm -Uvh quagga-0.97.3-1.FC3mpls1_946b.i386.rpm -->OK 5. #rpm -Uvh kernel-2.6.9-1.6_FC2mpls_1_946a.i686.rpm -->ERROR it reports that this kernel is older than current kernel (same result to rpm -ivh) What are my faults ? where can I have a detail instruction to install mpls-linux in rpm ? thanks. |

Yes. The zebra daemon does that. I would start by looking at the code in zebra. Specifically mpls_vty.c and mpls_lib.c When the user sets the labelspace via the zebra CLI it sends a message to the ldpd daemon informing it about the new labelspace. ldpd should not be allowed to set the labelspace, it should only accept labelspace messages from zebra. Try digging around a little. If you have difficulty making progress let me know and I'll provide more specific code references. >=20 > Thanks >=20 > Timothy > 2005.03.29 >=20 > ----- Original Message -----=20 > From: "James R. Hi James, I think if I can I will try to make these changes. What data structures I should dig and understand when I am tracing the = source code? Does the labelspace finally write to the kernel somewhere? The ldpd labelspace CLI is cruft leftover from quagga-ldp. It should be removed. The correct place to configure labelspace is in zebra. Hi, When a label space is disabled by assigning it to -1,what will happen when a packet comes with an incoming label respect to that interface. ILM has entry for this label. Thanks in advance Regards, Ramesh.s |

Thanks for your answer. In fact I was refering to RFC 2917 I think. I mean, I would like to emulate a PE router able to use VRF tables to forward packets and put the correct labels on. I have heard of an implementation of VRF called linux-vrf, I'd like to know if it works with MPLS linux. I am sorry if that is not clear (I am not an expert in MPLS and my English is not very good)... Anyway, thanks for all... --- "James R. Thanks a lot for the detailed setup example. The problem still remains though, namely, A ssh to ulm1, ulm2 ulm3, etc. is Okay. But ulm1 cannot ssh to ulm2, ulm1 cannot ssh to ulm2, ulm2 cannot ssh to ulm3, etc. The same problem occurs whether I have setup the LSP from ulm4 to ulm1 or not. ssh among the A, ulm1, ulm2, ulm3, ulm4 and B has no problem without mpls. Not really crucial to my mpls network. But I still would like to know why this happens. Any hint appreciated. Also the throughput of the mpls network is really slow (a few k in a 10M ethernet, a few M in a 100M ethernet, with mpls debug in all PC turned off), tested with netperf and meansured traffic (tg (a traffic generator) and tcpdump/tcptrace). Thanks a lot for the nice work in any case. morris On Mon, 14 Mar 2005 20:26:17 -0600, James R.
