The Open-Source concept contains exactly the freedom to modify and re-distribute the software, regardless of what the creator says. That's a very substantial one! It's just being sensible and kind to avoid publishing unnecessary forks of a project without trying to get things merged. But you are free do release your versions of mpg123 as you wish. Of course it should be "mpg123 version 1.2.3 with my patches" or, in case it's really a fork and not just some tweaks, some new name to avoid mixup. When you give a patched version to someone, you just have to also offer the modified source code. Alrighty then, Thomas |
