Hi all, As I am pretty new to Morphix (and debian, I'm more of an BSD guy) I suffer some problems with trying to rebuild (rebrand) a kiosk. I follow the instructions on http://www.morphix.org/doc/how_tos/docbook_html/ar01s05.html the template links are broken, but if I get the versions of the files from the (new link) svn in sourceforge I do not end up with the working (rebranded) version of morphix-kiosk. I just want to change the background (now, that is easy, that works), but also getting an customized home page (link). What set of (base and main) module template files and the mini module template files will work. I'm trying to build on ubuntu 7.04. If I do not need to do a complete rebuild and doing things an more easy way (which for sure must exist, only I do not get the merits) to get from a 0.0.3 iso for the kiosk to an version that has custom home page and custom background an easy step by step guide would be highly appreciated. Thanks for your time Rudi |

I have bumped into that, i thought it was maybe some my bad setup. Try downgrading your morphing tools (I'll try to see if I have any notes from back then). Iso was definitely not done well, but everything else was good, as I recall. I was able to get a good iso by taking the trees from /tmp and buidling the iso by hand. Debootstrap can create a Debian base system from scratch, without requiring the availability of dpkg or apt. I'd assume there are difficulties debootstrapping sid from within etch, as the packages required to debootstrap in sid tend to change every so often. Alex, the simplest way to figure out what is going wrong with the sid-debootstrap this is to run: `/usr/bin/cdebootstrap sid /tmp/libmorphix-something ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian` from within the VM. Upgrading to sid or using the etch suite in your lightgui template should solve this. cheers, Alex -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.3 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFGycUlQeuQA5TF/UsRAityAJ4sNGDjNTOI10fYsfKusd5CIp2bfgCcDi2Z tpVeeJ7Xw6WkhoTgaWH0Vpw= =AoK+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Hi all, I've been looking into Morphix to create a live CD for our open source PKI/trust center project OpenXPKI. For now, I've been trying to create the lightgui ISO as a start. I've used the following command: # isomaker -b ./basemod-2.6.17.xml -m ./lightgui.xml -r http://www.morphix.org/debian -p grub-gfxboot-iso-udeb -p morphix-cdrom-misc-udeb -p morphix-grub-menulist-udeb -p morphix-iso-grubtheme ./lightgui.iso (adapted from the documentation with a HEAD basemod-2.6.17.xml and lightgui.xml) But I get a lot of error messages and an ISO which does not boot completely as it seems to be missing quite a number of files. The output of the command is available at http://build0.cynops.de/lightgui.txt I'd be happy for any suggestions on how to proceed or how to further debug this problem ... Have appreciated your attention to this matter, but I think I will put this issue aside for now. For me, it is a side project. I just wanted to make an old machine into a usable Linux box to get some relatives "used to Linux" without touching their own PCs (my K6 also happens to be a small and light "pizza box", making it easier to transport). Morphix allowed me to make the system font size larger. This is very much an issue for older users. The others I tried did not. I also tried DSL and Feather. The live CDs automatically recognized the NIC, however not when they were installed on the HD, for some reason. Neither DSL nor Feather responded to support emails. Hi All, I am starting to update MorphingMorphix[1]. "The purpose of Morphing-Morphix is to provide a quick way to start Morphing and to showcase all the Morphix tools - a LiveCD construction kit. ... All that is required is some space on a connected hard drive." The plan is to still base it around the manual examples[2], especially building MorphixLiveKiosk[3]. At the same time I will update and release MorphixLiveKiosk[4]. When building MorphixLiveKiosk using MorphingMorphix it will Improve the chances of the build being successful. * Be able to download MorphixLiveKiosk (0.04) and update the following:- * If the locked-down browser has/has not got a navigation bar. * Starting URL * Branding * Add to the mainmodule contains non-free - flash from debian-contrib repository. * Maybe installed to Hard Drive.(Might wait until version 0.05) * ? If anyone can think of further enhancements/improvement, I would welcome suggestions. I have copied this email to the forum[5] and cc'ed the morphix-user email list. I did a lot of searching around and it looks like grub has issues with this chipset for most distributions. The bootloader used by the 1-4-07 Knoppix works (syslinux) and a recent Debian Etch CD works if I add the argument "pci=nomsi". So I installed Etch on the box and lilo, and I plan on having lilo boot the Morphix CD (I think this should work). If this sounds weird, it's because I need to have the OS on the CD for security and the harddrive is for data. The output of grub is simply to show the kernel chosen with the arguments, and then it hangs. Just like: http://www.mail-archive.com/bug...@gn.../msg10791.html I was looking into replacing grub with lilo on the basemod, but I couldn't really sort that out. Also, is there an authoritative page on replacing the kernel used by the basemod? Are there any special kernel configurations, or is it just a vanilla kernel? Thanks a lot! Dell seems to be working extra hard Nope not tired with these machines. My Dell laptop still has problems booting morphix, it got a usb-cd drive. Googling around it looks like its not just Morphix. http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-desktops/2006-December/000092.html > shipment of Dimension C521s because of their sheer crappiness). Any output would be a help debugging. Regards, Brendan |

So I have a new Dell Optiplex 320 and a month-old build of Morphix with Etch sources and this machine will not boot at all. Googling around says to add "pci=nomsi" to my boot options for the kernel, so I added them to the end of the grub line and still nothing. Has anyone else played with these machines? Dell seems to be working extra hard lately to drop Linux compatibility (I had to send back a whole shipment of Dimension C521s because of their sheer crappiness). I'm not getting any debugging messages, just the output of the kernel to be booted with the options. My plan of attack is to grab the latest of everything and try again, but I thought I might ask if anyone here knows better. Thanks, Matt ps- I sent this to the devel list as well, sorry for the crosspost. |

Hi *, with a little delay I wanted to announce that the Morphix Based CD I were working on was finally released: Its the new version 2.0 of the BSI Nessus Live CD BOSS (BSI OSS Security Suite). It's a security Live CD, mainly focused on the Nessus network scanner published by the German BSI (Federal Office for Information Security). If you are interested the Live CD and the matching source CDs are available here: (the i18n and docs on the CD are German only) http://www.bsi.de/produkte/boss/index.htm#download2 Thanks to everyone helping, especially for the support with collecting the sources. cheers sascha =2D-=20 Sascha Wilde Intevation GmbH wi...@in... int...@in... http://www.intevation.de/~wilde/ http://www.intevation.de/ |

> sort this out. I'd prefer to use the latest version of gfxboot though... Someone mentioned that gfxboot was pure voodoo, which I'd agree. I spend quite a while trying to get the message file to build on the new version. Documentation is worse then Morphix documentation. Upgrading to the latest Ubuntu version might be the *right* way to go. But it would be a hell of a lot of effort for little gain. (Unless I have missed some of the gains ? - feedback welcome) Anyone else got experience with gfxboot, who would fancy helping out ? Regards, Brendan |
