When trying to view a torrent file I get an error message "Could not open fie"
"Could not detect file character encoding. Try to select an encoding below."
Doesn't matter what encoding I select, it will not open the file.
Interesting, other text editors can display the file just fine.
Even Windows notepad does.
There is some text in a torrent file which sometimes need to be examined.

"Just fine" isn't really that fine, if you save the file then it most likely will be corrupted. I agree that it's useful to see the contents of binary files, but medit can't handle those.

When one wants just to examine some text in a .torrent file, they should probably use a tool like hexdump(1) or a dedicated hex/binary editor like http://heme.sourceforge.net/. Text editors are not the right tool for the job.
Could you please attach one of those files?
This is a pretty standard torrent file.
But my Mooedit 1.2 will not open any torrent files.
The file is indeed a binary file, and medit can't display binary files.

For more advanced viewing and/or editing of .torrent files, one should use something like https://sourceforge.net/projects/torrent-file-editor/.
