AFAIK medit doesn't require PyGTK, at least in pkgsrc. https://cdn.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/current/pkgsrc/editors/medit/index.html Actually medit works without PyGTK (though GIMP still requires PyGTK).

Hi, thanks for the patch, I'm also looking into getting rid of python2 in Medit! However, as far as I understand, this involves getting rid of PyGTK, at least in the distro I am using (Arch Linux) python2 is a dependency for PyGTK. I assume, the patch doesn't take care of getting rid of PyGTK, does it?

Flatpack isn't solving the problem of building gtk and other dependencies, which are very much dead at this point. I hate to say this, but it's simpler and easier to just use gedit or visual studio code.

"Just fine" isn't really that fine, if you save the file then it most likely will be corrupted. I agree that it's useful to see the contents of binary files, but medit can't handle those.
