Grab the source tarball from a Cygwin release directory.  Apply any local
patches that may be included in that tarball.  Then search for any references
to __CYGWIN__ or __CYGWIN32__ and add a reference to __MSYS__ or simply to a
mass substitution of __CYGWIN__ to __MSYS__.

You need to modify the config.guess and config.sub files as well searching for
any cased reference of cygwin.

You should then be able to configure and build with the MSYS runtime.  
The only
caveat being, if something was added to Cygwin since the version I used to
create MSYS then you'll have to work around the issue.
