Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=2646401 By: roffsen Earnie; Your suggestion with the 8.3 file syntax helped me too to get beyond the problem dreadmore faced. Thanks! :-) But now, after having installed both MinGW and MSYS by specifying the installation paths in 8.3 syntax (wich seems to have succeeded), I'm facing another problem. If I navigate to the directory containing the msys.bat and click on that file, I expect some kind of command window to open with a Unix-like command environment (although I'm not shure if this expectaion is adequate, as this is the first time I try to install and use these tools), but instead a pop-up shows up (in addition to a CMD.exe Window) displaying this message: +-------------------------------------------------+ |W:\Program | +-------------------------------------------------+ | Cannot find the file 'W:\Program' (or one of its | components. Make sure the path and filename are | correct and that all required libraries are available. | | OK +-------------------------------------------------+ I've traced this a little, and the MSYS.bat seems to expand the statement: 'if "x%WD%" == "x" set WD=%~dp0\bin\' to 'set WD=W:\Program Files\MinGW\1.0\bin\' (also not the double back-slashes; which of course should not have an impact on this). This leads to an error message in the CMD window, telling: "The system cannot find the path specified.". Thereafter it displays the pop-up when it reaches the 'start %WD%rxvt -backspacekey ^H -sl 2500 -fg %FGCOLOR% -bg %BGCOLOR% -sr -fn Courier-12 -tn msys -geometry 80x25 -e /bin/sh --login -i' statement. And finally outputting "The system cannot find the file W:\Program." before the CMD.exe Window exits. Now, what I have tried instead (in order to avoid having a blank in the path) is to replace the 'if "x%WD%" == "x" set WD=%~dp0\bin\' statement by hard-wiring the 8.3 path into the WD variable. This has brought me further; at least a little bit. After hard-wiring the CMD.exe Shell/Window launches a new CMD.exe Shell/Window (w/ 'w:/Progra~-I\1.0\bin\rxvt.exe' in it's title) and emediately exits. Now, why that happens, I don't seem to be able figure out. :-/ Please help! My Environment is: Windows/NT sp6a MinGW 3.1.0-1.exe ( w:/Program Files/MinGW/ ) MSYS-1.0.11-2004.04.30-1 ( w: Program Files/MinGW/1.0/ ) Best Regards, Rolf BTW, Could I have installed MSYS in the MinGW directory directly with the 1.0.11 snap-shot of MSYS? ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum.
