Hi All, Version 1.19.1 of GNU Troff (groff) has recently been released. AFAIK, this is the first official release of groff, which will build OOTB with MinGW. If you are interested in using this powerful text formatting and typesetting tool, you may download the official release tarball from ftp://groff.ffii.org/pub/groff/ (Germany), or from ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/groff/ (USA); (make sure that you select the groff-1.19.1.tar.gz tarball). After you have unbundled the tarball, you will find MinGW specific building instructions in the file README.MinGW. Just one word of caution, which is not made totally clear in README.MinGW -- perhaps I should clarify it; on occasions, I had trouble with groff hanging, when running in the RXVT console, both during the make, and subsequently, in routine use. Such problems disappear, when MSYS is started with the -norxvt option. Note that groff includes an emulation of nroff, which is the formatter used to prepare manpages for display via less -- perhaps the availability of this will enable the creation of manpage packages to accompany MinGW and MSYS. For further information on groff, please visit the official project web site, at http://groff.ffii.org. Best regards, Keith. |
