I hope a good answer to this question will help clarify my ongoing confusio= n about MSYS, MinGW and GNUWin32. I have a script that uses both sed and then tac (cat backwards, reverses a = file) and I noticed a difference in the size of the resulting files. The se= d is the MSYS sed, but as tac is not part of MSYS I got it from another sou= rce.=20 The difference in the size of the files produced is in the line endings. T= he file produced by MSYS sed is smaller, emacs reports it as type 'Unix' an= d it does not display properly in notepad. The file produced by tac is larg= er, emacs does _not_ report it as type 'Unix', and it is displayed properly= in notepad. As I'm on windows I'm inclined to use the larger format and am wondering if= the GNUWin32 sed will produce that larger format. That leads me to wonder = about why the MSYS sed is different to the GNUWin32 sed and from there back= to my confusion about MSYS, MinGW and GNUWin32. Anyone care to clarify why there is a MSYS and GNUWin32 sed and the differe= nces between them? TIA, Neil (J Mackie). ***************************************************************************= ******** Ofcom is the regulator for the UK communications industry, with responsibil= ities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communicati= ons services.
