I took a stupid pill when I got up this am, apparently. SORRY, pls 
disregard. Clearly, my filesystem looks (on closer examination, after 
sufficient coffee intake) *quite alot* like the organization of the files as 
distributed in the tarball; only the bin/ is out of place, and I think it's 
because long ago I moved mine up a level to make my PATH shorter. Aside 
from that difference the new files cleanly install to my existing installation, 
of course.
