Besides, if it's getaddrinfo() you need, as your quoting of this ticket implies, WINVER = 0x0500 will not suffice, because that function isn't provided in any system DLL, until 0x0501. It isn't a bug, that MinGW doesn't support getaddrinfo() on 0x0500; as I noted on the ticket, Microsoft themselves supported it by emulation, for earlier versions.
