This is certainly true, if you run in native Woe32 console, or RXVT, or (probably) also MINTTY, (which I've never used myself). It isn't true if you choose to adopt the alternative console from: https://sourceforge.net/projects/console/ (which may be installed by Chuck's msys-console setup script, and which is my own preference). > We encourage you to create a shortcut and use this msys.bat file as > the executable and the msys\1.0\bin directory as the "Start In" > location. Good advice, if you choose the msys.bat start-up method. When we get to mingw-get-0.5, which will support post-install scripting, I hope that installing the msys-base package will be able to create such a shortcut automatically, but we're not there yet. > But if you sh --login or bash --login then you should also be ok ... You should also add the -i option; (see my earlier response). If you choose the alternative console, (from the above SF link), you should configure this command directly into its tab configuration. (Note that on Woe64, you need to run it under SysWoW32, IIRC). > ... but might miss some variables set by msys.bat. Any variables which are set by msys.bat, and which aren't set by running /etc/profile when invoked directly (with --login), are nothing but useless pollution, IMO. -- Regards, Keith. |
