John, you are SOOOO wrong!!
Did you not read my reports??

My only problem was that cmd.exe clobbered my current working
directory. No gnu make tutorial would have told me that! No gnu make
tutorial would have told me me that a workaround would be to kludge on
CURDIR. No make tutorial would tell me about quotes or not, backslash
or not. I had to find those things out myself. In fact, I would have
wasted a hell of a lot more time trying to find answers in make
tutorials. My problems did not arise from general gnu make issues, but
were mingw specific issues due to it being on that brain-dead windows
platform and el-crappo cmd.exe. No complaints about mingw, it is
great! It is windows that is the problem.
