Ok. I agree that rxvt looks nicer, and resizes more easily; it also scrolls faster than the Win32 console. However, for me it's pty problems make it quite unusable, most of the time. The resize capability is, again a *very* minor issue; I just set the Win32 console properties, (once), to 142c x 57r, which just about fills my screen, tweak the colours to my preference, and save for all windows with given name. Thereafter, I work with the console window filling the screen, and minimise it, if I need to move it out of the way. Regarding copy and paste operations, well I really can't see what all the fuss is about; there is virtually no difference in behaviour between rxvt and Win32 console -- one extra mouse click, to perform a copy in Win32 console, and it uses the right button rather than the middle one, but so what? > So perhaps a better explanation would be that it would be nice > if mShell could provide both a console and graphical terminal, > leaving it up to the user which type of terminal they would > like to run. Nope. Can't agree with that. Neither rxvt nor Win32 console is a graphical terminal in any case; both are *text* consoles. Compared to KDE's Konsole, both are frankly, well "crap". It seems that Julien's aim is to provide a Konsole-like interface, to replace the Win32 console interface he's using at present; if he can achieve that, providing the best of rxvt's features, with the stability of operation that I currently have to turn to Win32 console to achieve, and do it in a single term type, then he will have succeeded in providing a viable alternative to both, without offering confusing choices. Just my 2p. Regards, Keith. |
