I'm trying to figure out how to tell mingw what parts of a monolithic c file
should be optimized for speed and what parts should be optimized for size.

I think many large but relatively short loops are rolled out if I choose optimize
for speed. I would want that to be as short as possible. On the other hand,
a few functions do string searches in a large lists, and that definitely needs
to be optimized for speed. I have measured large speed differences.

Size of the executable matters because it is loaded up to 1,000,000 times
daily.
