same difference

blank string = "" = '\0'

newline marks the begining of a new line, hence

blank line = '\n\0'

a line full of tabs or spaces is not a blank line is it?

in any case if you go to the very last character of your file you should see
the cursor blinking on a line by itself, not next to the last character in the
last line of your file.
