Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=2634368 By: jackson_0127 Hi, Maybe this is not question at all for most of you...but I really need help. My goal is to develop c/c++ program on windows environemnt using free sw(not MS visual c++). I happened to know MinGw. So I thought using Visual-MinGw as IDE and MinGw(GNU) as compiler/debug tools. But then I spent two days browsering www.mingw.org and found there is no clear step-by-step installation manual instructing newbie like me to install the countless packages... For example,I notice the "current" version includes "GCC" "MSYS" "MINGW RUNTIME" etc. within each package there are many small packages. most of them provide .exe version and most gcc tools provide bin version. so my question is: 1. actually I don't have a clear picture in mind what are the minimum packages I should dl and install in order to develop c/c++ program. 2. those gcc bin tools are compilered to run under windows? since now I typed in some gcc command like mingw32-gcc to compile a c/c++ file under Msys window, but Msys tells me: installation problem cannt exec 'as': no such file and directory... Anyway,I'm stuck at this point. any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
