And what's the diference to msys?

when i just need perl and a posix file system to run my simple perl scripts..
i just install msys-?.exe

now that i needed gcc, i instaled the gcc tarball into my msys, but all that
i got is "no input files".

$ gcc -v
gcc.exe: no input files


Any idea?
