[Mingw-users] gcc doesn't run for me

I have recently installed msys 1.0.9 along with gcc 3.2.3
When I try to compile a C program with the command
gcc -c <filename>.c
 
it returns
gcc.exe: no input files
 
I simply downloaded the tar.gz file, unzipped and untared
it and tried to run gcc.  I could not find anything that indicated
I was missing a step.  Could someone please help me with
what I am doing wrong.
