You can do exactly that with GCC trunk There are indeed patches that have not yet been implemented. The most significant will probably never be because the authour doesn't have copyright assignment on file. Others I have submitted. and they have been approved by Chris Faylor in capacity as win32 target maintainer but not by other maintainers of more generic parts of GCC. However, GCC 3.4 builds out of box for mingw32 for all languages except Ada.
