This may be nitpicking, but I (intentionally) didn't say that MS documented text mode completely. They do document that they do things that make your code invalid, but as I read they docs I have seen, they leave open that they may also do other things. In addition the C standard gives them a lot of wiggle-room here, making all kinds of things undefined in the face of text mode. And then stat() isn't even in any applicable standard at all.
