List - Sorry for what might be a seemingly simple question, but I'm trying to find out a couple things. I've checked out the links of various people's sites and most of the documentation appears to be written from the perspective of using MingW as an end-developer, not from the perspective of understanding the compiler internals and structure. I've found lots of generic info on GCC, and lots of info about how to use MingW, but not too much in between connect the dots type info. First, I checked the project site on sourceforge.net, and in the release notes for the 2.0.0 compiler, it says that the MingW documentation is located in mingw-2.0.0-doc.exe which is distributed separately. I've checked http://www.mingw.org/docs.shtml and I don't see any downloads available there. Is the information on the website the same documentation as is available in the .chm files? What I am looking for is something to help explain how each of the source packages fit together to create the compiler. In essence, how do I build the compiler from scratch? My goal is to understand the structure of gcc, and how mingw fits into that structure. For instance, I've got a source file called gcc-3.2-20020817-1.src.tar.gz, then I have another file called mingw-runtime-2.2-src.tar.gz. When I open these tar files, the directory structures do not seem intuitively compatible. I realize that somehow I have to introduce the platform specific library files such as stdio.h into my compiler build environment, but I'm not sure what directory under the gcc source tree it is appropriate to place them in. The same goes for the rest of the source packages (binutils, w32api, libstdc????) If someone could point me to the relevant documentation, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Chris |
