This sounds suspiciously like a wayward "and" from the end of a comment line.
Perhaps one of your
files is somehow being edited with an editor that is "wrapping" long lines, and one
particularly long line
has an "and" at the end...
Look through your files for a line that begins with just white-space followed by the
work "and"...
