Nothing except possibly the fact that you are extracting to a sub- directory instead of a root directory when the installation instructions Subdirectory: <somedrive>:\somedir\somedir2\ somedir2 is a subdirectory. Mingw, if not installed at the root level (see below) will likely fail. Afaik, this is a known problem having to do with how Mingw handles directory references. I was also under the impression that this was specifically stated in the proper installation notes. Root directory: <somedrive>:\somedir\ > I had a previous version of Mingw (I > forgot where I had gotten it, otherwise I'd use that) that was a > couple of self-extracting executables, and there were mingw32.bat > files. This had worked fine. Not sure which versio of Mingw you are referencing above. I think it is safe to say that you were probably using the legacy release of Mingw (Formerly known as Mingw32). I always recommend use the latest Mingw Release (1.0.1). Follows is the URL for the project download page at sourceforge.net: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2435&release_id=15084 Mingw Release 1.0.1: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mingw/mingw-1.0.1-20010726.tar.gz This version has the necessary modifications for the limitation of the Win95 machine already included and runs on Win95, Win98 and WinNT4 without a problem after dearchiving and extacting to the directory/folder of your choice. I initially began to think that you had the wrong information, or you had not been able to read the installation notes. Now that I think of it, however, I don't recall if there is a reference to this, so let me put it this way: It is recommended that after you have downloaded and dearchived the distribution (Mingw 1.0.1), extract the files to what I have described above as a "root" directory.
