Hello,
I have several times tried to install latest MinGW toolset (GCC 4.9.3). No package seems to contain the "libiberty.a" library file. I have installed mingw32-binutils (.bin, .dev and the rest), mingw32-gcc and mingw32-gcc-g++ .bin and .dev files and there's no libiberty. I've also tried many other packages. There's no clear answer in internet either where is this library file. Only place where i found it was msys-binutils v 2.19.51-3 but that's not the same as mingw32-binutils 2.25.1-1 so it doesn't link.

Last time i saw libiberty.a was in binutils-2.23.2-1.
This thread is also related to the https://sourceforge.net/p/msys2/tickets/26/

Can somebody please confirm if missing libiberty.a is a bug or planned act?
    I read this manual:
    http://www.mingw.org/wiki/howto_install_the_mingw_gcc_compiler_suite
    And it states that:

...the binutils package provides a "dev" package that includes libraries, such as libiberty.a...

Based on that it seems that binutils is missing one library.

Cant say for certain, but it seems planned since it now involves a
      switch '--enable-install-libiberty' to get installed.

      Info here https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/libiberty/Using.html

      Hope this clears it up.

Formally, libiberty is not a component of binutils; it is bundled within the source packages for both gcc and binutils, because both depend on it at build time.

That said, I have included libiberty packages within both the binutils-2.28 and gcc-6.3.0 FRS directories. There is no formally specified libiberty version. Both of these have been compiled with dwarf-2 enabled gcc-6.3.0; if you need it, either should probably fit your requirements.

It may be sensible to consolidate libiberty releases into their own FRS directory, with one per gcc version evolution, (associated with the compiler used to build).
