running on xp sp3 (32bit). downloaded and run mingw-get-setup.exe and selected all the default locations and options, until MinGW Installation Manager screen loads.
right-click on mingw32-base ( in list under "Basic Setup") and select add to installation. gives following error
"internal package specification error can't get 'tarname' for non-release element <<<unknown>>> please report this to the package maintainer

clicking on ok to clear the error gives another error (mingw-get)
mpfr-3.1.2-1-minggw32-dll.tar.lzma: requires...
gmp-5.1.2-1-mingw32-dll.tar.lzma: unresolved dependency (type 'eq')
gmp-5.1.2-1-mingw32-dll.tar.lzma: cannot identify any providing package
please report this to the package maintainer

clicking ok cycles back to the first error again, then to
gcc-core-4.8.1-1-minggw32-dll.tar.lzma: requires...
gmp-5.1.2-1-mingw32-dll.tar.lzma: unresolved dependency (type 'eq')
gmp-5.1.2-1-mingw32-dll.tar.lzma: cannot identify any providing package
please report this to the package maintainer
clicking ok cycles back to the first error again, then to
the mpfr error, then the first error, then an mpc-1.0.1-1-mingw-dll.tar.lzma error, then the first error, then another gcc-core-4.8.1.1 error, then first error, the mpfr error, the first error, them mpfr error again, the first error, then mpc error etc.

eventually after many such messages, the mingw32-base package is marked for installation. however, continuing creates an installation missing libgmp-10.dll and possibly other libraries, so that gcc will not run. ( i did a full disk search for the dll in case it was a path problem)

I'm happy do do more testing but I have limited bandwidth so can't download all the packages many times.

this is a basic show stopper for a new installation. Hopefully I could be pointed in the right direction, as I would love to compile my projects on both windows and linux platforms using gcc.
