The current released mingwPORT versions of zlib and
libpng do not work out-of-the-box at the moment. This
is because the install scripts try to download the
sources directly from the libpng team's website, where
those filenames are not available for download. Since
those two mingwPORT's were released, the libpng folks
have put out newer versions of both libraries... and
they do not archive on their site the older versions
our install scripts want to download. You CAN still
make the install script works by manually specifying a
URL, but this is obviously not ideal.
Of course, when the mingwPORT section is next updated
we will certainly want to increment the version of
sources we're using to the current version. However,
going forward it would make more sense to use the
"Choose a SourceForge mirror..." prompt by default, to
point to the libpng team's SourceForge-hosted files
rather than directly to their website. Files hosted in
that directory are archived for long periods of time
(indefinately?), so releases of newer sources on their
end would not break things on our end.
