I've been using cpp for some non-C related things, and discovered this one.

If you invoke CPP separately, instructing it to retain the comments (-C), and the file has DOS (\r\n) encoded newlines, multi-line comments get double-spaced.
/**
* I span a three lines
**/
Come out like this...
/**
* I span a three lines
**/
When carriage returns are stripped, cpp -C myfile.c doesn't double-space comments.
This buggers the line count for external tools as a side-effect.
