You are using the bitmapped fonts. You need to specifically say to use the postscript fonts. Use dvips <file.dvi> -Pcmz -o <file.ps> I use emacs and select command->other to input this, rather than the normal options There are some issues I have with whether this embeds the fonts in the file or not.
