[MiKTeX] --synctex=-1 unknown option

running windows XP, mixtex 2.4, winedt 6.0

The problem I am about to describe occurred on a file that had worked with 
no trouble yesterday and on 3 or 4 other trials (varying basic tex, latex, 
pdflatex). Here is minimal example.

sample input:

This is a test
\end

then I just attempted to texify from winedit toolbar

and got the following error message:


Command Line:   texify.exe --src --tex-option=--synctex=-1 "C:\Documents 
and Settings\John Baldwin\My Documents\testnov19.tex"
Startup Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\John Baldwin\My Documents

--synctex=-1: unknown option
texify: latex.exe exited with bad status, quitting.
texify: see "testnov19.log" for errors.

TeXify failed to create a dvi file.
For possible explanations start the command from the Command Prompt...
