for testing and finding good values for --save-size.

This error is probably due to limited commandline parsing capabilities
of the old command.com interpreter that I am forced to use. However,
with MiKTeX-2.6 I had sometimes to increase the main memory using
--mem-max=..., and this worked without problems within command.com.

Would it be possible to increase the default save size of future MiKTeX
binaries to the values used in previous MiKTeX versions?
