Of course, it's a little difficult to interpret your question: in what sense does WinEdt "not recognise" your .tex files? Do you mean that it doesn't open them automatically with a click, that the correct background colouring scheme doesn't get switched, or that the LaTeX and co. icons aren't active when you open a .tex file in WinEdt? I actually suspect you don't mean any if these and WindEt itself doesn't do anything. However, since Santa Claus didn't bring me the crystall ball I asked for, there's not much else I can say to help without a little more specific information.
