Hi all, I see in the test_suite that MESA can evolve a brown dwarf. How low in mass can MESA go? Can it do planets? Thanks, JC |

Hi all, For the first time, I'm trying to add my own code to MESA, in particular I want to implement an alternative to convective overshooting. I saw that the easyest way to do that is to edit the run_star_extras.f file, but I didn't have success.. Here following the beginning of my run_star_extras.f file: module run_star_extras use star_lib use star_def use const_def implicit none ! these routines are called by the standard run_star check_model contains subroutine extras_controls(s, ierr, id) type (star_info), pointer :: s integer, intent(out) :: ierr ierr = 0 ! this is the place to set any procedure pointers you want to change ! e.g., other_wind, other_mixing, other_energy (see star_data.dek) subroutine other_mixing(id, ierr) integer, intent(in) :: id integer, intent(out) :: ierr ierr = 0 end subroutine other_mixing procedure(franec_diffusion), pointer :: other_mixing s% other_mixing => franec_diffusion end subroutine extras_controls "franec_diffusion" is the name of the subroutine I added in this file... Anyway I received some errors after compyling.. here there are some of them after doing ./mk: gfortran -fno-range-check -fopenmp -fbounds-check -g -I/home/umberto/mesa/include -I/home/umberto/mesasdk/include -c -ffree-form ../src/run_star_extras.f ../src/run_star_extras.f:42.9: subroutine other_mixing(id, ierr) 1 Error: Unclassifiable statement at (1) ../src/run_star_extras.f:43.34: integer, intent(in) :: id 1 Error: Unexpected data declaration statement at (1) ../src/run_star_extras.f:44.37: integer, intent(out) :: ierr 1 Error: Symbol 'ierr' at (1) already has basic type of INTEGER ../src/run_star_extras.f:46.36: end subroutine other_mixing 1 Error: Expected label 'extras_controls' for END SUBROUTINE statement at (1) ../src/run_star_extras.f:48.58: procedure(franec_diffusion), pointer :: other_mixing 1 Error: Unexpected PROCEDURE statement at (1) ../src/run_star_extras.f:34.44: subroutine extras_controls(s, ierr, id) 1 Error: Symbol 'id' at (1) has no IMPLICIT type ../src/run_star_extras.f:49.41: s% other_mixing => franec_diffusion 1 Error: Symbol 'franec_diffusion' at (1) has no IMPLICIT type ../src/run_star_extras.f:257.25: Does anyone know where the problem is? Hi > how to set the mesh grid, i want to increase the mesh grid numbers. thx In /mesa/star/public/star_defaults.dek and in the part called "mesh adjustment", you will find several options to modify the mesh gridding for your specific run. hi phil, i don't know and do not have access to ubuntu, but here are some suggestions: did you source the intel environment scripts? > composerxe-2011.2.137 this is a bit dated. can you use the latest version, 12.1.2 20111207 ? you may have linked a version of OpenMP library which is older than your compiler or your MKL. make sure everything points to the same version of the compiler. you could also try using the -Bstatic flag in the definition of FCstatic instead of -shared-intel you may also find this link helpful http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/using-intel-compilers-for-linux-with-ubuntu/ what c compiler & version did you use when compiling pgplot? fxt On Feb 3, 2012, at 12:51 PM, Phil Arras wrote: > > Hello, > > I'm trying to install mesa with red hat CentOS 5.7 and intel fortran 12, > and without using sdk (as no root access on this machine). > > mesa successfully installed with USE_PGSTAR = NO in makefile_header. > > mesa's version of pgplot was then compiled with ifort, and seemed to work > in that the demos ran. the environment variable PGPLOT_DIR was set to the > correct directory. > > I then did ./clean and tried the recommended flags to install mesa with > pgstar on red hat: > > USE_PGSTAR = YES > LOAD_PGPLOT = -L${PGPLOT_DIR} -lpgplot -L/usr/lib64 -lX11 -lsvml -lpng > FCstatic = -shared-intel #-Bstatic -static-intel > > Compilation went a long way, but then failed on mesa star with the > following error message: > > --------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > ifort -vec-report0 -traceback -error-limit 6 -openmp -threads -o ../star > \ > run_star_extras.o run_star.o run.o -L../../make -lstar > -L../../../lib -ldiffusion -lionization -latm -lcolors -lmlt -leos -lkap > -lnet -lscreen -lrates -lreaclib > -lweak -lneu -lchem -linterp_2d -linterp_1d -lnum -lutils -lalert -lconst > -lmtx -lmesaklu -lmesalapack -lmesablas -L/local/stars/mesa/utils/pgplot > -lpgplot -L/usr/lib64 > -lX11 -lsvml -lpng > ld: ../star: hidden symbol `__intel_cpu_indicator_init' in > /astro64/intel/compiler12/composerxe-2011.2.137/compiler/lib/intel64/libirc.a(cpu_disp.o) > is referenced by DSO > ld: final link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output > make: *** [star] Error 1 > FAILED > /local/stars/mesa/star/test > FAILED > /local/stars/mesa/star > ./build_and_test FAILED > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > > Does anyone have ideas on how to fix this? Hello, I'm trying to install mesa with red hat CentOS 5.7 and intel fortran 12, and without using sdk (as no root access on this machine). mesa successfully installed with USE_PGSTAR = NO in makefile_header. mesa's version of pgplot was then compiled with ifort, and seemed to work in that the demos ran. the environment variable PGPLOT_DIR was set to the correct directory. I then did ./clean and tried the recommended flags to install mesa with pgstar on red hat: USE_PGSTAR = YES LOAD_PGPLOT = -L${PGPLOT_DIR} -lpgplot -L/usr/lib64 -lX11 -lsvml -lpng FCstatic = -shared-intel #-Bstatic -static-intel Compilation went a long way, but then failed on mesa star with the following error message: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ifort -vec-report0 -traceback -error-limit 6 -openmp -threads -o ../star \ run_star_extras.o run_star.o run.o -L../../make -lstar -L../../../lib -ldiffusion -lionization -latm -lcolors -lmlt -leos -lkap -lnet -lscreen -lrates -lreaclib -lweak -lneu -lchem -linterp_2d -linterp_1d -lnum -lutils -lalert -lconst -lmtx -lmesaklu -lmesalapack -lmesablas -L/local/stars/mesa/utils/pgplot -lpgplot -L/usr/lib64 -lX11 -lsvml -lpng ld: ../star: hidden symbol `__intel_cpu_indicator_init' in /astro64/intel/compiler12/composerxe-2011.2.137/compiler/lib/intel64/libirc.a(cpu_disp.o) is referenced by DSO ld: final link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output make: *** [star] Error 1 FAILED /local/stars/mesa/star/test FAILED /local/stars/mesa/star ./build_and_test FAILED ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Does anyone have ideas on how to fix this? Unfortunately not; the idea of the SDK is to provide a complete kit (compiler, tools & libraries) for building MESA. This problem arises when the Fortran compiler encounters a module (.mod) file created by a previous version of the compiler. To fix, you need to rebuild your installation. In the top-level directory, do a './clean' and then an './install' cheers, Rich On Feb 1, 2012, at 9:34 AM, Prof M. N. Anandaram wrote: > Hi Bill: > Thanks for the file attached.
