What to do...what to do...when a TV season is divergent on one episode on one site but not the other.....

So I have long gotten around to getting Star Trek TNG all seasons in HD.....whoot.

Of course I run into a land mine doing it.... so the season 1 first ep is "Encounter at Farpoint" well the scrape comes back as EP1 and EP2 split.....but my file set is all one file (for this ep).....which means every ep after that is wrong in Kodi because the scrape is off by 1.

The kicker is....on TVDB...it is a split episode, on IMDB it is shown as a singular episode of 1:30 min....so the IMDB listing would have "worked" if I could have use that data scrape.

So instead, I had to split the first episode in half......and the keyframe was luckily right at the exact spot so I didn't have to re-encode it.....but man what a PITA to have 2 data sources that are both right and wrong.

Looking at wiki, it says that the when it first aired, it was a full 1:30 presentation but later says it is shown as a 2 episode airtime.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:The_Next_Generation(season_1) (Scroll down to episodes for explanation)

    https://thetvdb.com/series/star-trek-the-next-generation/seasons/official/1 (2 Season Split)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092455/episodes?season=1 (Shown as a contiguous episode)

So while I understand what has happened here.....it is a mess to clean up (especially having to rename the actual files after the splitting...however...I use bulk file renamer to solve that legwork). It came down to....either I split the episode since TVDB is the primary source or leave my farpoint episode in tact and have it called up wrong when I use Kodi because of the NFO structures.

There doesn't seem to be anyway to "clean up" this specific issue....I guess my question is.......what would you have done.......split it......or leave it......?

I am not sure if MC should be able to solve this issue....but I also don't see a mechanism to solve it within MC. Has anyone else run into this issue with this series or others......what would be your go to solution? This is more curiosity than an action inquiry.

    Thanks.

So in the early days I would have named the first file S01E01E02, and used bulk rename to start the remaining episodes at S01E3 onward.

But, I just checked TMDb and now I would have scraped this series from them, as they also list
    Encounter at Farpoint
    as a single episode.

Is this what the newer version will do point to for scraping (tmdb vs tvdb)? I kept the original just for the case of something changing. Merging the two back together will be easy peasy.

What would the use case do if scrapers change and now you've got two vs the 1 episode....I assume ignore the changes due to the existing NFOs?

The other "issue" that comes up is that the "Up Next" starts to be active on the ep 1 going to the split ep 2 .....which is kind of annoying...it sits there for like 40 seconds counting down (which you could manually close....Using Madnox skin)...and you know it will auto play the next ep....but becomes a distraction........silly, very silly "issue" surely.....vs having the full version just play out properly at that point in the video.

Meh, ..... you're feedback just kind of validates what I would have done also..... be interesting to see if others followed the same methodology also.

Since a long time, you can choose to scrape from TVDB or TMDB in Media Companion.

Taking in account the changes on TVDB that will ask us to pay, I have completely switch from TVDB to TMDB a few years ago.

I've looked multple times in the TV settings, what should the settings be for switching it over? The display in the main browser always shows TVDB for everything I scrape, even the new stuff. Can you show me in the wiki or a picture what I need to change to make it switch over? I can nuke all the NFOs and thumbs and start it over. Thanks for any help you can provide.

NM, I found what I needed, it was in the folders and the drop down is something I never noticed in the left pane...I'll give that a go.
