A question: does MC have the ability to rename files after the titles in the .nfo files? What about automatically editing the file metadata tags? The idea is to rename a file to the 'official' title and add the appropriate metadata to the file. Ideally this would be done using IMDB, or similar, as a reference. If not, what about downloading and compiling the IMDB databases and running a script(already written) that does the same?

Yes, you can manually rename from within MC...see Wiki help Movie Context menus
If you have also had selected option in IMDB Scraper to include AKA Title, then you can use the drop arrow to the right of the movie title to choose a different title.
Editing already scraped metadata is on the main screen, click the save icon afterwards.
Or by Alternative movie Editor via context menu. Wiki help Alt Editor
